Question 2005 Mustang H-Pipe question

Hey guys I know there was a similar question asked but I didnt want to take up his thread and Ive got to find this out soon. Ive got an 05 V6 Mustang and im looking to turn the exhaust into a dual. I already bought dual Flowmaster American Thunder mufflers and I can either have Midas make a custom H-Pipe & install everything ($400) or it will be $150 at another Midas if I get the H-pipe kit seperately myself. Do I just need to find an H-pipe with a diameter of 2.5" from a random brand name so that its the same size as the flowmaster mufflers or is there something else I need as well? Thanks a lot guys i appreciate it

Welcome aboard... In addition to the H, you'll need one, possibly two new overaxle pipes. Honestly I think you'd be better off having the exhaust shop fab you something. It'll end up fitting better. Plus, if you buy an H, you'd likely have to have the hangers modified to fit. I had a custom bent H made for me awhile back. It fit perfect.

Thanks, this site looks great and theres lots of info. Im cautious about having them do it custom bc the guy at Midas basically said anything I buy premade is going to be better than what they can custom do. I would assume the overaxle pipes would be cheap. If I do go custom, i would have to find a hanger somewhere as well, and Im not sure where I would get that.

You can get the overaxle pipes and hangers from Pypes Performance Exhaust - Home Page. You can also find them at Welcome to RPM Outlet.

Thanks, im assuming that the guy will have overaxle pipes, if not ill get them. One last question, all I need is an O/R H-Pipe like the one made by Pypes right? Im assuming I can still use my catalytic converter on my V6, or am I wrong? And are there any H-Pipe brands that are any better than others (for under $200), or are they all basically the same...Thanks again

They're pretty much all the same. It's not going to fit perfect. The engine configuration of the V6 is different than the GT (60* V vs 90* V) so there will be a little cutting/bending involved to get it to fit.

Ok so i dont need a catted Hpipe right? Since the mechanic said the pipe shouldnt run more than 240, im asssuming no. Im just not sure how it works, can I keep my cats and then have him weld the H-pipe on after them?

Yes you will retain the OEM cats... They should cut the Y after the cats and then adjust the pipe separation to fit the new midpipe. Don't think welding it in is a good idea in the event you ever want to change midpipes. A band clamp would be better in my opinion.

Youve been a big help, im going to order the rest of my parts today. I like the Pypes H over JEGS bc one is stainless steel and one is aluminum. Lastly, do I need to buy a hanger for the driver's side along with the new Hpipe? Im assuming the new H wont come with one.

This should be all done by next week sometimes so ill let you all know how it sounds.

You'll need to purchase the two drivers side muffler hangers. You'll also need the drivers side hanger for the midpipe. I think you'll need to get that from Ford.

Hey guys..apparently I was wrong with the parts i needed. I gave the guy the O/R H-Pipe, flowmasters, and hangers. But he said they werent the right parts and there was no use for the Hpipe(which i dont understand). He said i need a kit where i keep the cats, and cut the y pipe in the middle, and then it will have the tubing to attatch from there to the duals. He said Flowmaster and MAC have them, but i cant find it anywhere. So if i could get any info on this and be directed on where to look for this part before i send back the H-pipe, id appreciate it. Im hoping to get this done as soon as possible but it keeps getting delayed. Thanks again

I bought an 07 GT Take Off (rolled tips) on e-bay and had Meineke do the install (H pipes and hangers) for $280 + tax.

Hi guys I got some GT take off mufflers and I took them down to the muffler shop near me to have them put on. When I came back from getting lunch they where on.

The put 2 pipes 1 each from cat right back to the muffler? No X no H or anything just each pipe going back to it's own muffler?

Dose this sound right? the guy said it will give good power and it sounds ok.

Is this ok to run it this way with no H or X set up?

Any input would be great.

They should have put an H in there to balance the exhaust gasses between the left and right banks. Won't cause any harm though. Old cars ran fine without an H.
