If you install a high flow intake system without re-tuning your computer system then your car will likely run "lean," which refers to the Air-Fuel ratio being incorrect. In other words, you'll have an excess of air, and the same amount of fuel. Most often than not you'd see no increase or worse yet, a decrease in performance. Long story short; if you're going to install an intake, you'll need to tune at the same time for the desired results. As for the piping, I doubt you'd see any difference between a curved pipe and a straight one. Its more important to decide between metal piping (which looks fancier) and ABS plastic (which looks good and dissipates heat better).
As for the rest of what was said (mainly that blurb about the Hurst shifter...) I have one installed in my car and it does clean up the feeling compared to stock, but... It's still pretty clunky feeling. Maybe its just my car...
