Flowmaster American Thunder axle back exhaust for V-6 Mustang
Just put this on my "new" '06 Vista Blue 'vert. Basically like it a lot, but seems a little too loud when it shifts up thru the gears (mine's an auto trans) and the 3 1/2 inch bright tip seems a bit "over-large" (like maybe a "ricer's size" tip?) and I think 2 1/2 inch would look better and more proportional. However, over-all I like the sound of the unit. What do some of the rest of you that have it think?
I have it and I love it. The sound is typical Flowmaster and sounds great on the 4.0L v6. A deep throaty sound with a ballsy tone that really barks at wide-open-throttle and at higher RPM's (4k+). The fitment was perfect on mine, and the 3 1/2 inch tip looks great too. The tip may look a bit big on the v6 because of the smaller notch in the bumper but its nowhere near ricer. Believe me, the kid across the street from me has a 6" tip on his Scion that makes mine look like a coffee stirrer.
Now THAT is rice...

I just did the same thing to my pony. And i'm kinda agreeing with you on the Tip, I wanted something beefy and now that it's on it does look a bit big in proportion. I was thinking of getting it replaced with a smaller tip. but then again, me attempting to reason out something that i have no real idea on how it works. I think that if you do get a smaller tip, it will restrict the air flow and causing a whisle effect. but, i think that would be if you're dramaticly going down in size. I dont think 1 inch diff would do anything. Oh on another note now that you have it installed have you noticed any squeeking? I know i did, i took it to the shop this weekend and it turns out the rear muffler mount was bending itself onto the top portion of the muffler making it squeek. a pry par fixed that.

Okay, thanks for the comments. I'm gonna live with the tip the size it is 'cause oftentimes it does not strike me as too big, espec. if your lookin' at it a ways off from the back of the car, so I guess it's not so bad (or too big) after all. As for the squeak, no I haven't noticed any squeak or squeaks. I watched the muffler guy install it and he really tightened it up on the hangers real firm-like. I had flows on my two prior stangs: a '97 GT coupe and an '01 Cobra coupe and they didn't produce an "interior drone" to the extent this one does: it's "borderline annoying" on this convert. However, I'm not trying to bash my unit, just trying to express my honest opinion on it....
Just wait until you see a few other v6's out on the road and take a look at their stock muffler tips. After having the 3 1/2" tip for a little while, everything else (especially stock) starts to look itsy bitsy.
Bigger IS better to an extent, but when you get over 4" like some of these ricers do, it turns from cool to silly.

You're right, Black Pony, you're RIGHT! Looked too big to me at first, but NOW looks "Just Right!" Also, LOVE the sound....Ganton
I had it on my car and it does look alittle ricey, my advice would be to either get a GT bumper and go duals because the way the GT bumper is, it covers over some of the tip and makes it appear more proportional. Or you could always just run no muffler

Ganton, I agree with the interior drone. I added my convertible and my wife got pissed at the sound and hated driving in it...after about 7000 miles the drone diminished and my wife loves it, she said she feels sexy in it. also, i cant not show it off, all my buddies love the tip and when you actually pit it next to a ricer, you notice how hot it really is compared to thiers

Hey, I don't notice now that the drone is nearly quite as loud or annoying as it was for the first few weeks or months, either!
I'm told here by a source that putting counterweights on the muffler could dampen the droney sound by 50%. Issat true? I'd thought that the purpose of counterweights on a muffler is to eliminage any VIBRATION rather than to dampen any unwanted sound or sounds.
