I bought a used 2006 V-6 convert. with 28K miles for a damn good price--okay, it was a returned "program car," lease return or rental, )probably a lease because it's a "Premium" model rather than the "Deluxe.") Anyway, I close the deal and get thru all the paper work hassle decilining all the extras that the finance guy twists your arm to get you to bite on, and in the meantime a couple of "kids" (real young-type guys) are out there spraying my care with liquid detailer and rubbing it down with micro-fiber towels. Made the body look reeeeeeal goood, but they got it all over the windshield and just wiped the glass down with the same towels. I didn't think much of it at the time, other than that I'd have to use a good glass cleaner on the windshield once I got home, but I had to drive 60 miles to get home on a warm, sunny day (which are very rare for this part of the country.) Anyway, it must've baked that stuff onto the glass because I've tried EVERYTHING from glass cleaner, to glass cleaner with ammonica, with vinegar, then a white paste to clean water spots, and finally something called "glass stripper," BUT NONE OF IT WORKED.!!! The *&%#*&#@ film is still on there and I am at my wits end of what next to do other than consulting an autoglass dealer. Any suggestions out there?
you can try getting a blow dryer to soften up the goo, then razor blade it off... it works on adhesives....

My try would be Denatured Alcohol from the paint store or Home Depot. It's what the decal companies tell you you use for stripping surfaces prior to installing stripes and the like.
Edit: PS: My 2006 V6 convertible at a great price is a Premium version from Budget Rent-A-Car.

Reason: Add PS
This stuff looks like it is now "etched" into the windshield. In fact, when you view it from certain angles, it has an "oil-like" sheen to it.....Man, it's a problem, but I could probably live with it. It's much less noticeable on cloudy days, as opposed to sunny, but would anyone really want to (live with it, that is?)

You might be reduced to getting a new windshield if that's the case.
What is the name of the stuff? I would try calling the manufacturer of that detailer for advice. It may have some type of silicone in it similar to rain X.

try laquer thinner..in a well ventillated area,,,along with goo-gone. If that doesnt work there is a product called "Red Brick" pick one up and throw it through your windshield, call your insurance company and voila,,, just like new...

Well, after trying everything and consulting just about everybody about the problem with "0" results, I wrote a letter of complaint to the Gen. Manager of the dealership where I bought the car and they ended up replacing the windshield at no cost to me. And, it is a stock Carlite windshield with the running pony logo....

That' a decent resolution. Good for the dealer and good for you.
I still have water/pollutant spots on my windshield, after all kinds of preparations failed. The thing that removed some of the spots was claybar, just like you'd use on your car's finish. The remainder of the spots - all over the horizontal surfaces of the vehicle - are slowly being eaten away by my semi-annual attack with Porter-Cable and various Meguiar's products.
