Default 2006 v6 mustang mod questions

Hey guys, this is my first post on these forums but not my first time being here, i have seen that people are very friendly and give some great advice so hopefully i get the same type of responses.

I have a 06 v6 premium, that looks amazing with rims, nitto tires, avic-z2 headunit, and some more stuff..... unfortunately none of that makes me go any faster except for the grip from the tires.

I just put in a steeda cold air intake, i have a SCT xcalibrator 2 ( might of spelled that wrong) tuner and i only had a reflash done because i ordered steeda shorty headers as well (304 stainless steel instead of ceramic) so the shop wanted to hold off on the tune till my headers are installed.

so far im disappointed in my intake because in a GT the intake gives a HUGE boost in performance (my dad has an 06 GT so i know the difference) this might just be the lack of a real tune but still im disappointed so far.

I have been looking for some easy ways to gain some power, i do plan on putting in the single turbo system from powerhouse in the future but until then i only am gonna put in things that cost under a grand.

Any ideas?

I need exhaust but i need something that will fit the shorty headers i just got and im fine with going dual cuz i can get a GT bumper.

I should also mention that i have an automatic =-(

i want to put in 4.10 gears and a steeda underdrive pulley

In a nutshell, do my future plans sound like a good idea? and can someone point me in the right direction to get me an exhaust set up that will support my headers and a turbo in the future ( i would like to get the american thunder axle backs with w/e midpipe, etc. that i'd need)

I know this is a long post but can someone please help? Im lost on what to do

Welcome to AFM! Post some pics in the gallery.

Your best bet would be to get Gears and T-loc for a boost in performance / speed, however you look at it.

As for the muffler, MAC makes some H/X pipes for ~150 bucks I believe, but for the shorties, if all else fails just take it to a local muffler shop and get a quote on a custom X/H pipe Then you can just get some Flowmasters or Magnaflows or Borlas or whatever you feel like.

T-loc makes it so both your left and right rear wheels move with the same power.

V6 comes with an open differential, so your power goes mainly to your rear right wheel

Summit Racing - High Performance Car and Truck Parts | 800-230-3030 has some I believe

It's a 7.5" ring gear vs an 8.8" in the GT. As long as you get the limited slip and ring and pinion for the Ford 7.5 you'll be fine.

A torque converter controls transfer of power to the transmission.

First off, welcome. Second, u said u wanted to go turbo. if u wanna go turbo u cant have 4.10s on it. it wont work out. third, the t-lock link is here-
Eaton Posi Limited Slip 8.8in 31 Spline Differential
or if u still wanna go w/ 4.10s for now u can get the entire GT rear axle here that come w/ 4.10s and the t-lock here-
2005 Mustang Take Off Parts
ya its a little more pricey but it comes w/ everything already.
i would consider underdrive pulleys while u stay n/a as well, maybe even an MAF. here is the underdrive pulleys-
ASP V6 Underdrive Pulley 05-08 4.0L Mustang - StangSuspension.com
here is the MAF-
Ford Mustang Mass Air Meters - MAF's at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!
of course wen u get all these things ur gonna have to re-tune ur car to get the most out of each part. hope everything works out 4 u.

I wouldn't mess around with a bigger MAF. You're not going to come close to pegging the voltage on the stock MAF.

I have the Steeda CAI package with the Xcalibrator2,I think similar to yours. Not to "flame" Steeda but their tunes are,,,say weak. I was disappointed in the results. Sooo I purchased an aftermarket tune from Jason @VMP. The tune was for performance 91 Octane and was very different. I spin the tires in first and chirps into 2nd and 3rd,,,,with the automatic. I do have 3:73 gears and the t-loc though in the 7.5 housing.JBA's to.
So you might want to upgrade the Steeda tune.I was impressed when I did.
My Xcharger supercharger is "in the Mail" so soon I will have an even bigger grin on my face.

Ok so this has all been GREAT information. Lemme see if I have all this straight..

I shouldn't get 4.10 gears if i plan on getting a turbo, if thats the case what should i get? and how expensive is it to get gears installed cuz i might jus put in 4.10's till i get the turbo.

My headers just came in, they are steeda shorty 304 stainless steel, can i expect any gain from this and will they be ok under the pressure of a turbo in the future?

My CAI is probably pretty decent but the tune i have for it it probably a sissy one so get a different tune.... is there anyway to get tunes downloaded for free? if not, where's the cheapest place that gives out the best tunes?

Should I get an H pipe or X? i heard X is the best if im planning on the turbo but i could be wrong. And can someone link me to a good X pipe that is compatible with the headers i just got? (keep in mind i think it can be GT exhaust systems because i can easily get a GT bumper)

Under drive pulleys i think everyone has said to get them. (again correct me if im wrong)

MAF was an idea from one of ya but not accepted by another.. someone clarify whether or not this is a good idea.

T-lok it looks like everyone has accepted this as well.

I think that's it, this is obviously a big project here, i have looked quite a few things up and apparently im gonna need a stronger driveshaft considering a dyno i saw that had this car go up to 135 and it snapped

Thank god im getting a new job soon to pay for all this

So thanks for all the help again and somebody please reply so i can get this all situated, im going off everyones word on what to get because i dont know whats best but i love to learn (just not in school )

5-7 hp tops. More with a turbo.

No... You can try Brenspeed, Bamachips, VMPTuning, Evolution Performance

Waste if you'll be adding the turbo later

They'll be fine as long as you don't supercharge.

Absolutely unnecesary.

Good mod with the gears.

A one-piece driveshaft and safety loop will recover a few hp and shave off some rotating mass.
