Default 2005+ Mustang... Is there a TSB for parking brake not releasing?

Hey all,
The parking brake on my 06 wont release when it's below freezing. This only occurs after sitting overnight. The handle goes down, but there is no tention on it and the rears are locked up. The service writer at the dealer is saying that my cables are "bad" and they haven't been maintained so they are not under warranty. I told them to show me where there is anything regarding cable maintenance in the owners book shy of adjusting the parking brake. Mind you, cars has had full maintenance since I've owned it. It's got all of a whopping 11K miles on it! They said they couldnt show me that because it's not specified in the manual but that is part of their normal service. I had a nutty and demanded to see the department manager. He came over and I explained what was going on. He looked at the writer and said "cables haven't been maintained", what the hell are you talking about? It gave me a good laugh especially the look on the writers face, and very close to exactly what I would have said to one of my guys if they said something like that. He said they will take care of it, put me in a rental and said the car would be ready tommorow. I should have just walked at that point, but they are the closest dealer to me and I usually get good service from them. I've never seen this writer before and hopefully won't see him again, I certainly won't deal with him again.

OK, <rant off>

Anyone know if there is any TSB's regarding the parking brake system for on 06 stick (or even automatic).

Thanks,
-Brian

i dont know about a TSB but I had the same thing happen to my 2006 V6 Mustang (automatic) They claimed a chunk of ice formed around my cable or some bs, they had no problem fixing the problem for me though, they just replaced the cable, haven't had a problem since.

I would note to them that you know somebody who had the same problem and their dealer had no problem fixing it for free.

Cheapskate Dealers sometimes

I had this problem happen before, something just froze and it wouldn't release. So I pulled it in the garage and got the stove going and it has been fine ever since. Just dont set the park brake in cold (below freezing) weather and you should be fine. Sounds like it is freezing to me.

YES! there is a TSB.

TSB06-5-4...

heres a link to a pdf of the TSB...http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...sb-list-2.html

I had mine swapped out last winter to new stainless bracket and cables. the design changes to prohibit water from dripping into cable ends (which freeze) locking the cable travel and therefore the wheels.

Sweet, thanks all! They are replacing both cables so hopefully that will end it.

The problem with the old cables is the rubber boot breaks down over time and lets water vapor in. I had mine freeze up last winter at work. Was stuck for 2 hours until they finally let go.
