Default Need more Traction, 2005 Mustang V6 with supercharger

I've got a 2005 superchanged V6 with headers, dual exhaust and stock rear end. Got stock BFG 215's for tires. Putting 235's on only gives me about 3/4" more rubber on the road and it's still one one tire pulling. I can't get locked up in 1st or second gear. What the easiest and cheapest way to get more traction??

Need More Tire!

I would recommend Posi-Trac or a T-Lock of some kind. Sounds like you have a nice setup though

i wouldnt go with posi unless the prurpose of your car is only to only run straight lines. Around turns with posi you will wear rear components much quicker. But if straight lines is your business than Posi is definitely the route to take hands down!

Please explain, I have never heard of that and have bought stock cars in the past with it.

Not true... Modern limited-slip differentials wear no faster than an open differential.

Upgrade to the GT rear end with the 8.8 and the 3.90 gears... then put the either the steeda or Rouch suspension kit... you should stick to the ground with those... the GT rear end already comes with the T-Lok and is sturdier than the stock 7.5 on the V6's... That's what i'm doing now

Default more traction

I like the idea of changing the rear end out to a GT's. Do I need to change the entire housing out or will the gears out of a GT fit in my housing? Where's the cheapest place to get what I need??

Marshall_series, thanks for the compliment. I'm cranking 340hp.

You've got to change out the entire housing. You can pick up an 8.8" takeoff at Drive Train - Ford - Mustang

Don't forget to factor in a couple hundred for shipping.

At that rate you might as well trade in for a GT. Before you know it you've spent more money getting your v6 to perform like a stock GT than it'd cost to just buy a stock GT.

not exactly, insurance will be better, gas will be better, and it's cool to have a v6 that can eat GT's

True, gas will be better.

Insurance? The difference depends on the person, mine would only be about $20 a month more (which I pay $120 anyway so to me its not that much different).

If I could choose between a supercharged v6 with 340hp or a stock GT with 300hp, i'd choose the v8 in a heartbeat. I guess i'd rather have a GT with all that potential (mod-wise) than a v6 that can beat stock GTs...

And this is coming from a guy who's typically seen around my group of friends, who all have v8 mustangs, as the 'v6 enthusiast.'

Of course it all comes down to the cash you've got in your pocket and/or how much of it you're willing/able to spend. When I bought my car I couldn't afford to buy a GT, as with many people. It's also my belief that the v6 model is plenty fast enough for a 22 year old kid (me!)

Geez, us v6 lovers are dropping like flies huh?

I agree that you shouldnt just trade in for a gt, but a real cheap way to improve along side new tires would be control arms Mustang Control Arms at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping! there pretty cheap compared to replacing the axle and should give you a boost plus a decent improvement on traction.

I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with the 7.5" rear. It's been around a long time and there are plenty of guys making big power with no problems. Problem is the open carrier. Get a limited slip and a little more gear and you'll be all set.
