You basically have to take off your tailights and take it to a tinting shop and they will do it. You choose how dark you want the tint to be. Or if you can work with tints you can actually do it yourself. Same as any other tint job. There is also the option of going the professinal way and basically it is a permanent tint that looks a lot better. Only flaw is you cant go back.

I will have to tint mine because I live in utah and we can't have the lenes of our taillights as dark as the covers are. so I will have to tint mine because i'm a state safety inspector. so i have to follow the laws closer than everyone else cause people get mad when I find something to reject them for they look at my car and try to find something wrong with it just to try and get me to pass their car. but it never works I fail them anyway when I find something wrong.

Hey check out this link. They have custom cut 17mil thick tint that adheres using 3m adhesive. Since they are already pre-cut, it is a mod almost anyone can do themselves as long as they have a squegee and a spray bottle. I have the rear bumper side marker tint and it fits perfectly.

which way do you turn the holder for the backup light to get it out of the taillight housing? I can't seem to get mine to turn far enough to get it out. and I don't want to break it.

Here is what I recently did (literally yesterday):
I purchased the pre cut film off of ebay-
eBay Motors: FORD MUSTANG TAIL LIGHT SMOKED TINT COVERS 05 06 07 new (item 180199734794 end time Jan-02-08 15:05:43 PST)
Installation was very easy, just squirt water/dishwasher soap on your taillights, then center films (they come cut 3 per tail light), then use the supplied squiggee to adhere tint.
I ordered the darkest and to tell you the truth, its not that dark, I will post pics tomorrow.
BTW, on the tint film I purchased, there was no glue so they come off easily.

just an observation.. i have sequential turn signals. ive seen them tinted and they dont look as good. if you ever want (very cool) sequential turn signals, don't tint the lenses!

An easy way to do it is to go with the smoked taillight tint from American Muscle. I have done it my car and it looks great.
