Exclamation Fuel Gauge Issues

Hey guys, a friend of mine has a 2005 V6 Mustang also. He ended up filling gas the other day and we both noticed that the needle did not just jump to the full bar as usual but took a really long time. A half hour or so. The next day it just dropped all the way to empty and it says DTE FLI Data Err on the dash. He turned off the car and restarted it and it was ok for a little bit. Then the same thing happend and the check engine light came on. What is this? What is going on? and How serious is the problem? Any responses will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've had trouble with my guage if I leave the engine running while I fill the tank. It confuses the computer or something but it has always sorted itself out if I shut off the car for a half hour or more.

ive had the same problems before. #1, ford recomends using chevron with techron fuel system cleaner in the tank. this might fix it or hold it off for awhile. other than that there is a tsb i believe to replace to sender unit in the tank. unfortunately thats my next step cause it keeps acting up.
