I am looking for a good supercharger for my 2007 V6 Coupe and I am not sure which one to buy. There are a few factors I need to consider mainly cost, but of coarse power. So far I have only seen two, the Procharger and the Vortech. I am not the best with mechanics, so I am going to have someone install it if I buy one.
Also, which other accessories would you recommend?
Such as Dual Exhaust.
A fourth one is the x-charger from explorerexpress.com. It's a v6 Mustang and Explorer specific supercharger kit. Not as much power as a vortech but if you' don't have deep pockets you don't want more than 10lbs of boost anyway without spending some big money making the engine and drivetrain stronger.

No mod will void your entire warranty... however if Ford feels that your mod is the cause of the problem be prepared to have your warranty claim denied... so if you put a supercharger on and your door locks stop working Ford can't deny your claim on the door locks... HOWEVER you pop your motor and you take it to the dealership be prepared to have your claim denied....
Each dealership is different in how they handle mods... so if say you supercharge your car and the rear end goes out, one dealership may deny your warranty claim (because you added extra HP ford didn't intend on) while the dealership down the street might fix your rear end without so much as blinking...
Personally, if this is your only car and you can't afford to replace the motor if something happens I would seriously reconsider the supercharger...
also, (kinda unrelated) on the 05+ v6 I was thinking of upgrading mine to new rods (5.9 aluminum) and pistons (aluminum 8.8:1 comp) along with new head studs ,all waiting for either a turbo or s/c setup. Did I miss anything?? Anything else need to be built up for 10+ psi??
a critique of the X Charger.
I just installed one on my 06 4.0 . After a long time reading over the instal manuals for the big three,Protech,Vortech and X charger I went with the X charger.
This was for by far the best one,for me. The instruction manual was perfect,,lots of colored pictures. All of the parts were packaged and labeled and complete. The removal of the old parts was simple and installation of the new the same,,,very easy. The modification of the wiring harness was a breeze as all the pieces needed were included in the kit, except the electricians tape. After checking each step off in the book as I went, the next step fell right into place. Dont get ahead of yourself.
I already had an sct tuner so I loaded it with the tunes from Bama chips. When all was installed and tunes loaded on the computer with fingers crossed I turned the Key... Fired right up and still going.
I feel that the Xcharger is the most complete and easy to install of them all. No removing the front Facia..no taping into oil pans. Granted it isnt intercooled but that is coming soon.
The project is/was something I wanted to do on my own and I am glad I did.
Next stop, when it warms up ...the races.
Nice looking underhood pics! Where'd you get the blue valve covers?
It's 8 or 10psi boost depending on which pulley you install. Beyond that you lose engine reliability and longevity. Run 14psi boost through a stock engine and you'll eventually be picking up the pieces off the pavement.
I'm personally saving for an x-charger right now. All other mods are on hold until I get it.

I purchased some new valve covers on ebay and painted them. When I did the instal I put the new ones on.Sanded and painted them with bulldog spray paint bonding primer then some high temp paint from Schucks auto.
Thanks for the compliment.I think they came out pretty cool ..
I'm gonna have to get myself a set and paint them.
Did you keep the stock headers or go longtube for the hi-po kit and are you running single or dual exhaust with it?

ok I may be a beginners mechanic down at Big O' But with a supercharger on his 6 he could only get another 2PSI boost unless he relieves pressure from his cylinders. Which means Drive train. Carbon Drive Shafts recommendable. REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION!!! 4.30's wont fit a 6 I know because I own an S197 6 cylinder. 4.10s recommendable if you enjoy burnouts and for gas mileage 3.40's Don't go with procharger at all you want to impress people with your small block right? people are impress with more mods not major mods. Drag racers are major mods and our 6's can't handle Drag mods, But I'm testing my own knowledge still by putting Heartache on the strips in a month. So hear are a few pointers save up, get a JLT Cold Air Intake, get a carbon drive shaft 4.10 gear ratios if money on gasoline isn't an issue, rebuilt your differential to take the torque boost. It will relieve preasure on the engine and you can stand a few more mods from there. Please like I said I'm a beginners grease-monkey if I left anything out. Feel free to correct me so that even I may learn
There are a lot of folks running 6-12 lbs of boost in the stock v6 engines with no problem. It's 12psi and beyond that they start trashing engines.
As far as the transmissions go, I don't know about the v6 manual but the auto is the same one they stick in the GT's. Unless you're doing a supercharger with nitrous combo you won't take out a tranny that's already running in stock 300hp GT's.
The driveshaft should be fine. It's a one piece as opposed to the 2 piece ones the GT's are having problems with. The only problems I've heard about the one piece drive shafts is that some go out of balance over 120mph.
I have yet to hear of anyone taking out the rear differential unless they're doing the F/I and nitrous combo and even then they usually take out the engine before the rear end.
Our V6's can handle drag mods just fine.
If you want to impress folks, there's nothing like the windup whine of a supercharger under the hood.

The turbos I've seen are running around 6psi. The supers are running 6-12psi. The x-charger runs 8psi with the 3in pulley and 10psi with the 2.8 pulley. There's a couple of folks that have gone down to 2.4 pulleys and taken out the engine. I think they were running 16psi on the stock engine at that point.
Also check out the 4.0collective. There's a lot of info from folks running superchargers on thier v6's.

Pretty easy to spot that mine is a 6 by the alternator position. But yes it is an S197 v6. (2006) Is this the same person that could only get 2psi and needs to relieve pressure in his cylinders? If it is, I'd find a new source for my info.
I'm curious, how does the drive train relieve pressure in the cylinders?
