07 GT here. I've only had it since july last year. It's a beautiful car in great shape and now has 109,500 miles on it. The car puffs some smoke out when I fire it up - sometimes, not all the time. I figure the valve stem seals need replaced.
Anyone here done this job on the 3v motor? Any advice on the job, or other suggestions about the startup puff of smoke? Btw, I run Motorcraft 5w20 in the car.
That's kind of a normal thing for this car. At least that's what I've read. Mine does it at times. I've got an '09 with 127k on it. Maybe some of the more experienced guys could comment on that.
Does this puff of smoke happen after you have driven the car for a very short period; like moving it in the driveway?
I think they all do that, and it is caused by a little bit of oil left in the intake? that was not burned off when you ran the car the last time. Mine does it almost every time after I do the "driveway shuffle" (meaning move the Mustang in the driveway so another car can come or go)
Yes, that seems to be when it smokes. I pull it out of the garage and back in after working on my 66 mustang. There have also been times where the car has sat for a couple weeks and then puffs smoke. mostly, it seems when i move it in and out of the garage
Ideally you want the engine to be fully warmed up before shutting down so any moisture in the oil can be burned off. Smoking at startup after the car sits for a while or after driveway shuffling is perfectly normal. You can test the PCV valve to see if it's sticking before you buy a new one. If it rattles when you shake it, it's still working.
