Question Hood open Switch/Sensor

While connecting the Battery Tender to the battery I noticed a little forward of the battery what looked to be a rubber booted squat switch that gets depressed by the hood when closed. I have not noticed a burned out hood light under there or a dash panel light saying that the hood is open/ajar.
What does that booted switch do?

It's a hood ajar sensor.

a buddy of mine just brought an 08 GT500 and I saw that switch but that car has the switch mounted more to the front say not to far from the headlight. I thought it was a hood ajar thingy.

Does it tell you on the dash somewhere?
I got in the car shut the doors and turn the key to accessories and don't see any indication of it being open. How do you know?

It's tied into the alarm system.

I feel like I am pulling teeth here.

So it is strictly an alarm function.
Example: Someone reaches in while the top is down (no motion sensor w/ top down) and pops the hood, the alarm will sound because of that switch, am I correct?

Correct... It's just an antitheft switch.
