install the posts, then paint the tops of the posts with whiteout or nail polish. Close the hood (gently) and the posts will mark the underside of the hood. Drill from underneath on the mark with a small drill bit. THen drill from the top down with a step bit until you get to the correct size.

If you do a search for hood pin install on this forum there are a lot of helpful threads.

Good Luck!

follow up: i was able to change the grill out without removing the rad cover. theres plenty of slop there after you pull the push pins out with the rad cover cut like i did it. but if you ever had to remove the rad cover my method reguires removing the pins. so its a toss up how you cut it. now, i started out with the hood pins about parellel to the hood edge, but had to turn them inward to the frt center more so the pin sits flat on the scuff plate better. i started out with them kinda tight so they woulnt slip sideways while driving which was not good. the pin fix solved that problem and is great now, but either the tightness i had, or when you install the 4 little screws for the top scuff plate; they go through the hood and into the underneath hood brace sheetmetal a little and pull the hood down causing a dimple in the hood.( i now have a slight dimple on one side that you can barely notice if the sun hits it just right) so be real carefull with that. the strength of the sheetmetal on the hood is very weak.
