On my 2005 GT the rear parking brake cable on the driver's side was routed too close to the exhaust. It burned the plastic sheath around the cable and fused it to the outer black covering. The driver's side parking brake mechanism did not operate at all at the rear wheel because the cable could not move inside the outer covering.
My left rear parking brake cable finally broke from the strain of my yanking up on the parking brake to try to get it to hold when the car was parked. The replacement cable was about $60 from the Ford dealer, and it was fairly easy to replace.
Found a piece of plastic wrapped around my H-pipe, Idk how the hell it got there but i tried to get the big chunks off, but there are still little melted bits in there i cant scrape off... but the smell has been going away with the plastic burning off.
