I've got a new tune from Bama (was experiencing some pinging on my 87S tune under moderate/heavy throttle above 3K) waiting to go on my tuner. I just downloaded the SCT programming software and was about to update the firmware on the tuner to the latest revision before I loaded the updated tune. It stated that I should return the vehicle to stock (tune) before I updated. Is this required? Will I lose my stock tune if I don't? I don't want to lose my stock tune by any means!
EDIT: should add it's the SCT SF3 (the newest one, 3015)
Just got an email from Bama confirming that you should return the car to stock tune before updating the firmware. I'm guessing it overwrites that file somehow.
Always return to stock when updating the firmware. This because all of the tunes , including the stock time is cleared from the tuner during a firmware upgrade. When you return the car to stock, and upgrade the tuner firmware, you will have to then copy your custom tunes back to the tuner. Then when your ready to tune your car, it's like the first time you got the tuner:, the stock tune is loaded from the car back to the tuner, then your custom tune goes in.
hmmmm . . . I'm pretty sure you CAN upload and download tunes to/from the tuner/computer using the SCT utiliity program, including the factory tune . . . the same way you do it when you get a new tune by e-mail and you want to replace one of the tunes in the tuner. I don't have the utility program and tuner in front of me right now, but pretty sure it is in there.

Yep you are correct. There's an option to save your time to your pc in the program.
Your stock tune can be saved to the tuner, and then saved to your computer hard drive. However let's say your tuner was lost, or you had it reflashed . There is no way to put the copy of your stock tune back onto the tuner. Only your custom tunes can be restored. If you want your stock tune put back on the tuner I do think SCT has to help with that.
I let it cook for a while and after 15 minutes or so just unplugged it. Luckily I didn't brick it. I was able to upload a new tune and save my stock file. I haven't tried to update the firmware again...maybe I'll try it again but I don't want to push my luck!
