Default cup holder problems

Hi all,
I had a big problem with the fact that there was no room for any drink in the holders especially driving a stick. In case some you you didn't know that there is a 2 in" insert in the back one that you can pull out. Made a big difference. I hope that helps some of you out. I love my Ruby, which is the name I give her. O5 redfire GT 5-speed with interior upgrade, tinted the windows and added 40 series flowmasters.

Hey, could you take a picture on your cup holders? I have been looking for the fake bottom, but haven't figured it out. My 01 definetly has a rubber thingy which you can take out, but not '05..

If you have a wet-n-dry vac try this. Turn it on and stick the hose in the cup holder hole closest to the arm rest and it should suck up the insert.

Even with that insert removed it is still a issue with anything larger than a 12 oz. drink. I love my GT, but if there is one thing that needs to be changed it is the cup holder issue.

What they should have done is move the damn things over towards the passenger side of the console. It's RETARDED the way they did it.

Maybe its just how I sit but I really have had no problems with my cupholders. I chew tho so Im constantly using the bottle I have in my cupholder but also I just lean over just a bit and keep my arm on the right side of the drink in and I also took out the insert.

I agree that cup holders are too close to the shifter/stick...I keep my hand on the shifter when i drive, which results in my elbow hitting anything in the cupholder. I dont even keep my sunglases in there cause it just ends up poking me as i drive.

Ah. I got it. I was picking something from the cupholder groove and found the knob where you can lift the fake bottom. Now I have '99-'04 ashtray for coins on the front holder and rear one without fake bottom. Works ok. The older ashtray fits if you put a few feet of tape around the bottom part of the tray.

All this talk about cupholders not big enough and not located correctly. My fix is real simple, NO food, NO drinks, and NO tobacco in my car .
