About half of the time there's a little bit of roughness or hesitation during the 2nd to 3rd shift. It usually only happens under slow/cruising acceleration. It's done this for as long as I've been driving it. It's used with around 80,000 miles. Help?
Make sure the tranny fluid is at the correct level.
If the level is ok, or if it's low and adding more fluid doesn't fix the problem, then have the tranny fluid and filter changed if that's never been done, or if the fluid looks discolored(brownish red) or smells burned.
If changing the fluid and filter doesn't fix the problem, or if the fluid and filter were recently changed and the fluid doesn't look discolored or smell burned, then either the solenoid is bad or the 2nd-to-3rd bands and/or clutches are worn and need to be replaced. (Note: Sometimes replacing the entire tranny with a rebuilt unit is a cheaper option than replacing the bands and/or clutches on the existing tranny.)
