Long story short, i bought a 2006 mustang gt 4.6l with a manual trans. Car has 45000kms on it and from the test drive i took had no clutch slippage or any noise in drive train. Only thing i did notice was it was a little hard to shift. Like it took some effort to move shifter from gear to gear. But clutch felt good and had no clunk when you let it out, did not slip and seemed to work good. Car accelerated like it should and i was very happy with test drive.

Well........ 40kms later in 5th gear at hiway speed something happened.

First thing i thought was the air conditioning fan motor or something blew up? Like a slow noise of a motor that had a bearing let go, then speeds up and gets louder??? So i reached for fan control to turn it off then felt the car start to vibrate almost like a wobble???? I could tell it was in the drive train somewhere by that point and pushed in clutch to slowly pull over on shoulder.

Then the car started to stall and i shut it off. I was stunned but more that i just got the stupid thing and it drove awesome for 40kms and piled up on me.

I sat there trying to make a plan and the car cooled down a bit i guess, so i decided to start the car and put it in gear to see whats going on.

It went into gear no problem, and i let out clutch and it started moving down road. i shifted to second, then 3rd. No problems??????????????? I was confused as to what happened.

Then it started to shake and vibrate again and when i pushed in clutch it felt like there was no pressure in peddle at all and stalled.

I let it cool once again and kept pumping peddle in car and it slowly got stiffer. So i started car with clutch in and trans in neutral, and when i started to let out clutch it made a scratching grinding noise so i pushed it back in and shut off car. I had it towed to a dealer and am waiting to see what they say.

So..... Any ideas?

I'm no mechanic , but i am mechanically inclined and have doing most maintenance to my trucks and motorcycles and a lot of repairs to them also.

I just hope its not a lot of money to get my car fixed. But it is what it is, and if it costs to much i will trailer it home and do whatever it needs in my cold garage. lol

Any ideas would be great. Thanks jay

I could only smell clutch burning after last try to make it move, no fluids on ground and it has lots of oil in brake/ clutch res. Not sure if thats enough info for someone to have a good idea? But i thought i would try before the stealership gives me a quote. lol Thanks

Hope this is in the right spot? If not could a mod move please? thanks again

I do not think a bad throw out bearing would cause the vibration you mention. Also, the fact that the clutch pedal pressure seems to change and needs pumping points to something like clutch hydraulic system issues.

Replacing the throw out bearing is only inexpensive if you do it yourself. Not rocket science, though.

clutch slave cylinder I had one go out in a nissan truck and when it got warm the clutch pedal would fall to the floor, wouldn't shift etc.. when cold it'd work fine..
I replaced that bleed it and bang perfect running truck again..

it sounds like that's what's going on with you here on your pony good news is thats normally the cheapest fix for a manual car that's not shifting all a sudden..

It depends on how bad the leak is. If its slow enough it could just get slung out the tail shaft seal and never leave a "spot" on the ground. Until it got low enough to cause over heating of the gears. The manual tranny fluid level is probably the most over looked fluid level next the rear diff, since there's no dip stick and leaks can be very slow and unnoticeable (unless you're under the car every so often to notice "spatter" marks) til catastrophic failure happens.

i have a trans specialist of 25 years that is gonna try and fix my car this weekend once i haul it home.

I explaned everything in great detail to him and he thinks ( without me giving my thoughts ) its the throw out bearing. He said the tob and slave are a connected piece and the noise i heard could have been the pressure releasing back into the system from line.

He asked me a few more questions and said he would drop the trans and take a look, and replace parts ( clutch, release bearing, have flywheel turned replace clutch, tob and slave ) and put it all back together for 500 bucks, plus parts.

he is my bosses son and my boss asked him to help me. He does this in his spare time for extra cash.

I hope he is right and its a quick easy fix.

But i wont know till he gets that trans out and opens it all up. Wish me luck fellas. if not she will sit in my garage till next spring.

i will update when i know more so we can all see.

Throw out bearing is only used when the clutch is being applied and it would growl the second the pedal was depressed.

If the previous owned did a fluid exchange on the transmission or had it done and forgot to add fluid it would be low without a leak. The lack of lubrication causing the bearing to start to seized and vibrate creating heat making the brake fluid in the slave cylinder boil and giving a faded pedal( in theory).

I have seen that happen a couple of times at our shop with different car makes.

What did the dealership tell you?

They told me it was my hydro clutch. And that it would cost 1000 bucks to drop trans to find out more. So i told them i would come get it, and the car will go to a guy i know to be fixed.

I will know in about 7 days whats the deal.

All i know is this guy will charge me 500 bucks to drop trans and properly diagnose problem. And only charge me cost of parts to put it all back together. So either way the trans has to come out. And after that i'll know more for sure.

well hauled my car to the shop today and loading car was easy. The clutch worked enough to load car but smelled like oil? Not clutch but oil. Unloading at new shop and the mechanic was there doing something after hours to his pick up ( long weekend ) he asked if he could try the car just to see. So he rolled it back and forth a couple times and told me he thinks its a slave cylinder throw out bearing issue, but told me even if it was to change clutch while we had trans out.

Thing is, its a stage 3 clutch ( spec ) and if it looks good why would we change it and just not do the pilot bearing and tob and call it good ???

Is he trying to hose me or should i just change the clutch and all while its getting work done. Car has 50 000 kms on it. And clutch felt great to me. But i wont be doing much mod wise so i dont really need more than an oem clutch and will change it if its the thing to do.

Thanks for advice guys. its been hard to not drive the car, esp after today. lol But soon i will get her home and enjoy some wheel time.

Also getting the shop to pull lower kit and put stock springs in. Its just to low for where i live. lol

On dealership paperwork it says "Push vehicle into shop to verify concern, suspect release bearing or pressure plate damage after testing "

not sure if thats just some bs? Or they tried to move car and thats what they thought? But thats two different places now. I'm hoping its not trans. Will find out for sure Tuesday now as its the long weekend.

Well........ bent input shaft is what they are telling me. How the hell that happened? I dont know? But i can get a used one in good condition put in for around 2600 bucks. trans comes with flywheel, clutch everything.

Going in to look at this " bent shaft " Monday morning . They dont know this ;) but i am. And it better be " bent like they say it is or i'm having car towed to my house and i'll get the trans rebuilt or buy a used one myself and install when i have time.

This car is a nightmare so far. But i'm gonna get it going and maybe sell the dam thing if its not gonna cooperate with me. lol

Yup i should just have a new clutch put in. But the costs are getting to high. Wish i had time to work on it myself but i just dont. Life eh. lol

pick up car this tueday. Will have refurbished used stock trans and flywheel, and new stock clutch installed. Paper work said used trans from 2006 ford mustang gt with 15000 kms at time of arrival, in good working condition. Fly wheel is from same car.

Long tooth you called it. Car had no trans fluid at all in it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I flipped out big time on seller but i dont have a leg to stand on. It was an as is, where is sale and i just gotta take it.

Bearing was shoot and shaft bent. Mec said gears in trans will be pooched also in his opinion.

Clutch was almost done ( warn badly ) and fly wheel was in bad shape also.

Had them change out lowing kit for stock springs and will get wheel alignment wed.

I'm gonna need to fix a few other things i noticed at time of sale.

Some parts i cant find. Like the water drain plastic for trunk that keeps water from going into trunk and lights.

I'll have to fix the stupid bracket on exhaust that is to long ( pypes muffler delete ) and a broken front light plastic piece .

Any good sites to buy parts like these? Thanks

This ***** car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thing ran great and the new trans and clutch all worked like they should. I just put 500kms on it and parked it for a while thinking winter is here.

While it was sitting there i decided to pull plugs and check them all. They all looked great with a light brown tan on them.

was going to do a compresion test but didnt have the right part for my plugs so i just put her all back together, torqued plugs and installed cop ect.

Then, 5 days later i go to fire it up and rip to the store and its missing a beat here and there?

I go for ride and it has major hesitation on acceleration.

Got a code flashing so i brought it back home.

Hooked up programmer and checked codes.

Got cylinder #6 misfire.

So i fire car up and listen to fuel injectors. They all sound good and working. I pulled them all and cleaned them with carb cleaner and a battery to function injectors while cleaning.

All worked great.

Installed them all again and start pulling cop and plugs. Plugs all look good but i change them around with cop.

All from one side to other just to see if the misfire moves to other side of eng.

Everything is the same after test drive. same code as before cylinder 6 misfire.

Started pulling connections off cop while car is idling in garage to see if car sound different.

Nope sounds same like its only missing the odd time not all time.

Looked the hole wire harness for cut or damaged line. Nothing. All looks like it should.

Checked plugs into computer, all connected like they should be.

Downloaded programme again from programmer. ( sct3 ) tune is 91 performance.

Everything same.

Now im getting other codes like o2, emissions and that crap.

I also did a vacuum test on car and it was right in the green whole time with no fluctuations. From what i read this is good regarding mechanical issues

I'm lost on how to fix this junk heap??????????????

Did i mess up my o2 sensors now??????

HELP! lol This car is going to be the death of me.

If you switch all the spark plugs with the ignition coil packs and your still getting a code for #6 cylinder I would then swap the #4 & the #6 fuel injector and see if it moves. If it does then you know you have a plugged or bad fuel injector.

Sorry to hear about all the troubles your having.

Was a short in ground on fog lamp. And it blew a fuse #47 ( engine 1 ) I decided after looking on here to check fuses. I fixed sorting wire, changed fuse and no codes. Car runs perfect again. And i am learning.

had a guy come look at buying this thing. But now i have it working properly, new clutch and trans. Do i chance getting a different one and having more problems to fix? lol

I'm getting to know this car pretty well maybe i should keep it? lol

I had problem after problem with my 05 GT, instead of the spending all of that money on fixing stuff, I used it towards a 2014 model. I don't regret it a bit, but that's just how I am. Some people enjoy fixing stuff, but not me. I guess it just depends on how much you like the car.
