I recently purchased a 2006 mustang gt, the owner is throwing in an aftermarket cold air intake, but it requires a tune for installation. Is there any place that sells a tuner that is not $400, or is there a common shop that would have the tuner that would be able to do it for me, Thanks.
Good luck with finding a tuner under $400. I've seen some listed at $369 and $399 online. The Ford Dealer will sell you a CAI kit and install it for you. I purchased one several years ago for my 2007. I believe the labor cost for install and tune was approximately $144.
I recently purchased a 2006 GT, and it came with a CAI. I will pass on the tune for mines. 300 horses is fine for me, on regular gas as a daily driver.
Good luck.
This is what keeps me from doing a CAI/Tune. My car is pretty fast. Maybe not track fast but for a DD it gets to 100+ fast enough for me. I do like the look of and aftermarket CAI and there are many that don't require a tune so I might do that to help with the under the hood look. I don't know if I want to get into messing with the engine that much.
Look on ebay. I won mine for $9.99. Yes you seen it right. Its the Bama Flash tuner made by SCT. The only thing is if it is locked you have to send to SCT to unlock it. Cost $150 which I had to do. Then you can go to American Muscle and get a custom tune for like $65. So I got everything for $225. Maybe later you can get tunes for life and never have to pay for a tune again. Cost $150 but when you add performance parts like a intake or off road exhaust with cams you will need it. Warning. Upgrading your car is very addicting and may cause you to go broke:wink:
If you plan to do any performance mods down the road, then the cost of a tuner with custom tunes is really worth the money. Best to get the SCT4X right now. Some good mail order tuning companies would include: Brenspeed, Lund, Steeda, VMP, and Tu Dyno. Bama has a mixed rep, some with no problems others with lots of problems. If you are near a good shop for dyno tuning, which cost a fair bit more, Revolution in Baltimore MD, Fastlane in Raleigh NC, and Brenspeed in both Texas and Indiana are good choices.
look on your local CL for used tuners and CAI. they come up from time to time. I got my SCT 3015 for $200 with 4 unlocks left on it. there are several SCT X4 tuners for around $300. there is also a JLT 3 and Steeda CAI on my local CL now.I went with Brenspeed and couldn't be happier, ZERO issues for going on 2 yrs now. 300 horses is at the crank, 265 or so to the rear wheels depending on transmission. good luck
