Went looking for info on these cheap ELM 327 copies. So If your looking for one might want to read some of this.
First the Elm chip. Its made buy a company n Canada called ELM electronics. And cheapest ELM327 they sell is a 28 pin 7.50mm SOIC. for $17.00.Only place you can buy them is straight from them.So you know If those cheap 327 clones are selling for under $10.its not using a elm 327 cheap but a cheap Chinese knock off of the chip.
I have a BFX version that I bought for $20ish.So it a cheap knock off but never had problems with. Those small mini 327 clones .Work fine on some cars but not on others.I decided to buy one of those blue ones just as a spare.See if it can read my 2005 GT..Which uses PWM J1850 protocol.I used this to find out protocal. Not sure If I go out to car and check scanner info in Torque pro would it list protocol being used.I dont feel like getting dressed to go out side and check..lol.I used this little chart I found online.
Bottom of list says..
Interfaces used:
1996 - 2001 : J1850-PWM only
2002 - 2006 : J1850-PWM or CAN
after 2006 : CAN
Ford OBD-II diagnostic interface pinout diagram @ pinoutguide.com
From that list I make out it this way.It does say at top list is not complete but anyway.
Mustang GT"s from 1996 to 2005 used PWM J1850 protocol.2006 Gt's to 2007 used CAN 11bit (500kb).2008 started using CAN .2008 is last year listed so dont know what later models are using. It did say list was not complete,Or even If it is accurate.
CAN
