Now that i have calmed down here is the update
Okay well. It turns out that upon closer examination myself and the ford dealer agreed that it was not sand, but it was dirt mixed with small rocks. And i have a good theory on how this happened so here goes:
First off and foremost, those stupid idiots at the sunoco station have bent my filler door as can be seen in one of the pictures. the bottom of the door rubs up against the bottom of the car and is stratching the paint away but forms a tight seal that not even the sand can escpae. Also, by the door being lowered that 1/4in, the top is also 1/4 in larger and has a sizeable gap that i can stick my finger in. Also, for a long time now, every night when i drive home from the airport at 11, i am going about 20 MPH and i can hear this pinging noise like i am driving over a bunch of gravel/rocks when actually all i see is the road that i am on. Now that i think about it, and by the suggestion of my father, i examined the little rocks on the roadway where i drive over. Turns out the little rocks are pretty much a spot on match, and as for the dirt, well, dirt just gets everywhere let face it
and the fact that it never occured to me to clean it out for the 6 months i have owned this car probably led to a sizeable amount of build-up in there. Yet another reason i hate NJ for not allowing me to pump my own gas, i mean it do it all day long at work to million dollar aircraft but its illegal to fill the tank on my $35k car???
After i showed a bunch of people and had the photos taken i started to mess around with the "sand" and its dirt. i stuck my finger on it and its dirt, I also gave the filler neck another examination and i saw absolutley nothing anywhere underneath the black cap which leads me to believe that it was never opened. I also had a theory about the big windstorm last saturday but i found no rocks or anything around the liner of the trunk where it should have gone if it was gettng kicked up that badly with the 50MPH winds.
Which ever is the case, i am going to pick myself up a locking gas cap because STL had a point with the rising gas prices, little jerks will start to siphon gas from tanks like they did back in the gas crisis. So either it got there from all of the kick-up from my car (which i can really believe to be true because i looked where all of the salt sprays along my car cause i have a ton of it on her right now
).
So whether its a tard getting even with me for something i didn't do, a REALLY bad practical joke, or it got there on its own (which i believe) i am going to get the locking gas cap for a 2 fold reason, and maybe some splash guards to try and keep the crud from kicking up all over the back end of my car. i know i'll make PC proud :bigthumbsup
