2008 Mustang GT Oil Capacity, Book states 6 Qts?

So I am at 3400 miles. I had the car to the dealer at 1700 miles. They changed oil and filter. Though I would change it again now then move to longer intervals. When I drained the oil in the car and remove the filter, 5 qts is what came out. That was what the dealer had in the car.

Checking owners manual, 4.6 states it uses 6 qts.

Anyone know , is it 6 or 5 qts? Auto store say there system says 5 qts also.

Stick does look like I could add some but really wanted to check before I did that not to overfill.

thanks

I believe that the 6 qt capacity includes the oil filter. I recall when I changed my oil that I used 5.5 after filing the oil filter.

correct, 6qts but alot stays trapped in the oil filter and engine, that's why you'll only get 5 qts outta' the oil pan....

Yes it takes 6qts like the manual says. You will need a half qt for the filter. so get 7qts. You can use the other 1/2qt the next oil change.

The 6 quarts includes consideration of the filter. 6.5 quarts is too much.

Thanks All, That explains it. Yes only 5 qts came out plus the filter. On the stick I bearly see the clean oil so I am going to add the qt. Just didnt want to overfill .
I did doulbe check the Ford bill for the first oil change and said 5 qts. That must have been a computer line item and not what the tech really used. That Why I asked.

thanks again!

I use 6 qts with oil filter change and it will read a little below the full mark on the dipstick...always better to be a bit lower than over-filled.

Yes. 6 quarts gets me almost to the top line on the dipstick. About 1/4-1/2 quart if i decide to top it off.

Oil level for a 4.6 on a 2009 mustang gt

I thought I was the only one with this problem. I would change my oil and filter put in 6 Quarts and the stick still showed it was low. I found out you need to put in 6.5 Quarts for the level on the stick to show full!!!!!

Why in the hell did they make these 6 quarts anyway? I have buy a jug, then pay a third of the cost of the jug for one extra quart. Ugh.

When did they stop making everything take 5 quarts anyway? My car takes 6...my wife's camry takes 4.5, and my beater camry takes 3.8 :wtf:
