Paint or Vinyl Racing Stripes?

I have a white 2007 V6, and I am wanting to put racing stripes on it next spring when the snow goes away. Being this is my first mustang, and my car before it was a 94 Taurus, I don't have much experience dealing with racing stripes.
I am curious whether actually having them painted on is the best way to go, or are the vinyl stripes durable enough to last? Because I was looking online, and it looks like you could save a lot of money going with vinyl, but I don't really want to put them on if they will just chip and peel off, look like crap. Let me know what you think, thanks...

If I were you I would get them painted. They will last longer. I got mine about 2 months ago and they're black vinyl which look great but I can tell they shrunk somewhat from the sun. It's not noticeable unless you glew your face to the car. Also you got to be careful about the air bubbles, they were annoying to get rid off when installing the vinyl stripes. In the end you basically get what you paid for. Which I was happy with.

In the future I plan on removing the vinyl and getting them painted so they can be painted on the front grill and all the way back to the rear bumper.

Paint is the best option if you have the $$. Vinyl is ok but won't last as long. One advantage of vinyl is you can remove them if you want to make a change at some point.

I agree with stl. Get them painted if you can.

Also, the best way to paint them is to make them seamless, not just masked and shot on. My painter explained how he does this, it ain't cheap, but there is no ridge or bump that you can feel on the edges. They finish with clear coat over the whole hood, top, bumpers and trunklid.

The full clearcoat adds some cost, but really gives a superior job.
I agree with the others, get the paint if you can afford it. However, if you're unsure of the layout or if you're going to like the final look, you can go with the vinyl in the meantime.

OK, so I've added a few things to it. Check my Profile - too many to list here.

I'd go with the vinyl and use the money you save vs. paint on some other mod. Like STL said, you can always change your look later on. I'm doing my bumble bee stripes this week as I've had the plain jane look for a couple years already. Maybe in a couple years, I'll wanna do something else. I bought the original Ford Racing stripe kit. My neighbor has an V6 w/pony package & stripe kit, I noticed a tear on the bumper stripe already, the downside of vinyl.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll do some shopping around and see what sort of price estimates I can get for painting them on. I'd like to get them painted on if I could, but I am unsure whether that will be within the boundaries of my budget. Does anyone have a rough estimate of how much painting on stripes would cost? Thanks again!

ive heard anywhere from $1,000-$2,500... I paid $290 for my vinyl and all things needed to install. did it myself, and saved big. If you have the money to get them painted, do it, otherwise vinyl will last a good 2-5 years.

Check out Baltimore Street Mods for vinyl stripes.......they are reasonable and have them pre-cut for hood scoop (if you have) spoilers, etc. I had mine installed professionally and am very happy with the vinyl stripes. I had a problem with my hood scoop wrinkling them (they went underneath scoop) but since I had them cut away around the scoop....no problem. My thoughts were 1. if I didn't like the look they could be taken off easily (compared to paint) and 2. If they were damaged they could be repaired fairly easily (I bought and extra 3' length of the stripes in case of any damage, cost $20).
