Thumbs up 2005 Mustang V6.Increase HP for under $300

Hey Everyone,

I decided that I could use a bit of a horsepower increase for my 2005 V6 Mustang Convertible as lately all I've been doing is cosmetic work. I currently have a really nice Magnaflow True Dual Exhaust setup and Functional Ram Air. I don't want to spend more than $300 (so don't tell me to supercharge it, like everyone else does, lol). I would like to get as much Horsepower increase from that amount of cash as I can. I know it's not much and it won't go far, but hey I'm 16.

I was looking at a set of Pypes Headers today and I figured that may be a good choice. Not only would it increase power, but I've heard that they really compliment my exhaust setup and look very nice under the hood. If you have an opinion on these, let me know.

All suggestions are welcome (except superchargers ).

Thanks,
Gotadime

I was considering the same thing with the headers on mine. A few people said that they were not worth the money when it comes to power gain. I have also heard that about the 70 mm throttle body. Under drive pulley is an option for under three hundred. If you would consider saving a little more you could get the aluminum driveshaft from rpmoutlet.com for 500. Its supposed to free up about 14 hp. Also a new set of gears and an install kit would probably be about 300. They wouldn't increase power but give you better acceleration.

Thanks, I appreciate the information. Do you know how much HP the headers are supposed to add? Also, would I need to buy a tuner and re-tune the car or anything like that? I tried looking for the drive shaft but couldn't find it. I've also looked at under drive pulleys and may consider those as well.

Playa, thanks for the tip with the tuner. I'll look in to those as well. Would you recommend any certain one or are they all pretty much the same?

it will be a little more than 300 but a tuner is the best bang for your buck for a $300 mod alone.

Good deal. Do you recommend any tuner in particular?

The stock headers are actually pretty good, performance-wise. Aftermarket ones don't hardly show any increase in power.

You're better off with a tuner, then an intake and follow up with that coil and wires.

Black 2005 Mustang v6, 5 speed, IUP, EUP and Leather.

Razzi 1/4 window scoops, Mustang GT Sway Bars, Flowmaster American Thunder Single Exhaust, Clear Front Turn Signal Lenses, Demolet CAI, X-cal2 91 tune, Hurst Comp/Plus Shifter, FRPP T-Lock, Ford 3.73 gears

becaureful about takeing off hte speed limiter. if u plan on going faster than 120 MPH u better change out that drive shaft!

and make sure your tires are rated that high, the stock ones on my sixer are rated at 130MPH

and make sure u can stop it with the brakes!

I wouldn't get shorty headers they don't really do much. You could by a CAI with a tuner at RPMoutlet for less than 300 I think... or a supercharger haha

Used X3 tuner, and a 91/93 race tune from BamaChips or Tillman.

Hmm, I may go and check them out. And, there's always one who mentions the Supercharger, lol.

Edit: That site is really hard to use. I have no idea where to go. You have any links?
