S197 Weight Reduction

Hey fellas. I've whittled my car's track wieght down to 3380 lbs. (this is full interior, I'm not removing my passenger seat to race) I've been looking for more ways and am thinking of switching to a set of OEM 17 inch bullet wheels vs. my 18 inch ones. I've heard the difference is nine pounds per corner! Anyone know for sure? I've also heard of rear axle weights on our cars. I haven't looked, but if they are there, would removing them hurt anything?

Yeah, that Matt is fanatical about removing weight from his car. He even broke up with his old girlfriend and is dating another girl just because she weighs eight pounds less.

Well, when he told the old girlfriend she needed to lose some weight if she wanted to ride in his car, she started looking around for things to throw at him...

I've only done the basics such as no spare and jack, no trunk liner, and of course an empty gas tank on track night. A rear seat delete is coming but that won't get me to the 3300 mark like I want.

You need to find something that weighs a lot and then delete it.
An "engine delete" would really get the weight way down...

You should highly consider an aluminum drive shaft. Thats a good twenty pounds or so and adds a bit of power so its a win win. You could also get light weight racing front seats.
A carbon fiber hood and trunk lid would cut down a little. If you were willing to forgo speakers you could have custom carbon fiber doors made.
Smaller wheels and tires would be good. The A/C delete would be substantial in weight and a little power but you might want to keep that.
You could get rid of the dual exhaust and just do single or just have it dump under the car instead of having all the exhuast pipe.
Could take out the fog lights...

If your car does have the weights you can remove them with no problems.
