I'm guessing it's for blue tooth.

+1 bluetooth, if we had the new synch you would be able to press the phone button and give voice command such as " call mom" and it would. You would then be able to talk through the stereo just like a speakerphone. I have the NAV system and the phone button will mute and unmute the radio when pressed.

On my 2007 Mustang it will mute the stereo, which is really stupid because you can just turn the knob, which is easier.
On the newer rides with SYNC, it does a bunch of functions with bluetooth enabled phones. ( I have it on my 08 Explorer)

:hihi: 2007 VISTA BLUE GT! Only Mod so far is the 14" shorty antenna and a billet plug with GT on it for the dash power plug.. No Engine Mods 'cause I like the car fine the way it is and making it faster is only gonna get me in trouble.

You could get Sync installed as a dealer-installed kit on the 2009. For the 05-08, they had two things you could get, MobileEase and TripTunes. MobileEase, I believe, is a voice activated bluetooth calling feature (like Sync but without everything else). Trip Tunes is a direct connection for your iPod. Hope that helps.

+1 on the MobileEase and TripTunes. These are what my 09 came with. They work pretty well. Just dont come with all the other handsfree features of the Sync system

I have the MobilEase on my 08 and it works great. I hate BT head sets.

Does the Mobile Ease use the "phone" button on the Shaker 500? How does it work?

Just FYI, the base stereo also has that "phone-button-that-isn't-a-phone button".

Yes i just picked up my Mustang this week. And it had this phone unit next to the radio with answer button and speak command button, spoke to it messed around in the settings, sure enough if i had a bt phone i would have hooked it up.

Now the shaker 500 cd player didnt work , so my deck was the first item to go in. I had thought the bt phone thing was probably after market of some sort, but when i started taking it apart its a factory ford blue tooth phone accessory unit. Its plug and play to a shaker 500 system. Kinda a cool find, thought it might be worth a few bucks.

I have a problem with the sync phone button(s). It only hangs up on people. i have to get my phone out and push the green button to be able to answer a call, which makes it kind of a hassle..anyone else have this problem?
