Red face Dynomax Bullet Mufflers installed

Just got back from having a set of Dynomax Bullet mufflers welded in to my car's over axle pipes.

When I had the FRPP 5GT (Stingers) on they sounded great but droned at highway speeds.

I figured the resonators would take out the drone. I dragged my feet on having the resonators installed and during the interim sold the Stingers.

Now with the stock mufflers and the resonators my car is like in hush mode...

I'd like to pull the mufflers and hear what it sounds like with just the resonators. Catch is you can't really drive that way as the over-axle is hanger-less.....

Now to start the mentally painful process of deciding on what mufflers are next...

I drove mine with no axleback for a week when I traded exhausts with a fellow forum member. Didn't want to mess with reinstalling stock ones while the shipping went through. I had no problems whatsoever. No axlebacks will give you a decent impression of what SLP Loudmouths will sound like.

Thanks for the info.

Did the pipes bang around a lot or were they pretty well behaved?

Id think they would bang around a bit. Id think you could drive it enough to see if it will drone. I say it will drone. I run the PYPES mid muffler setup and its close to what you want to try(no mufflers) and I have drone at 2000rpm..below that is fine and above that is fine. with my catted X. you run a Xor H?

You could get a muffler delete system, that way you would have a hybrid midmuffler set-up. My set-up is resonators and slp LM.

They would clank on really hard bumps but that's about it. I have SLPs with stock cats and midpipe and it drones significantly less than my Borlas did. I bet the SLPs would sound really clean combined with the resonators.

my Stingers on stock exhaust drone
my pypes muffler delete on stock exhaust droned
my FRPP GTA's had zero drone but not loud enough for me

Its a tough choice. Right now i am running the stingers and they do drone but i try and either drive it hard enough to switch through the gears and speeds, or slow enough so i stay out of the drone. On the highway they are fine. 70 MPH at 2,000 RPMs and they are quiet. IDC about WOT since i go WOT maybe once every other month

I've come to appreciate the combination of GTA and the Dynomax race cans.

You and I've gone a similar route.
  • FRPP GTA's - zero drone, too quiet (and mine were falling apart)
  • FRPP 5GT (Stingers) - Idle & WOT sounded great but (with the 3.31's) droned at highway speeds.
I haven't done the muffler delete... yet....

What the market needs is a set of mufflers with electronic cutouts built into them...

Pairing the GTA's with cutouts might be a way to go....

I'm probably just thinking too hard again....

My brother in law had the bullet mufflers installed and ran with muffler deletes. Funny thing is, he said running the bullet muffler along with the delete pipes was quieter than the spintech mufflers. He actually liked running the delete pipes with the bullet mufflers. Said it was quiet at cruising and gave a nice WOT sound. I've thought of doing that with my V6, but I live in california, and all officers around here hate noise.

Never had a problem with the police running any exhaust set-up.
