07 Shaker 500 CD Error

I am in the navy and went out to sea for 2 weeks. When I got back my car wouldn't start without a jump. It is still on the original battery. I thought the battery might be going bad until I noticed the stereo acting weird.

When I turn on the car I get the CD Error (first picture). I turned the car off and opened the door to turn off the radio. After I shut the door the error came back (second picture) then went away but the 6 circles stayed on (third picture). If I press load, eject, or CD it just says initializing (fourth picture).

I think the stereo is draining down the battery. Has anyone experienced this fault? Is there a way to fix it or am I shopping for a new stereo?

I have had similar problems with my 2005 Shaker. Just keep pressing the eject button and turning the radio off and on, and it will eventually eject the CDs and get out of the error mode. Its tedious, but has worked every time.

The problem seems to be a keep alive memory relay that sticks when you turn the car off. It leaves power to the CD, but not the rest of the radio (why?), and the CD starts cycling after you leave the car. Sometimes I got back in the car and could hear the CDs changing inside the head unit. It eventually drains the battery completely.

My solution: Before you shut down the car using the ignition switch, shut down the radio first so it only displays the clock. This seems to break the cycle with the relay and the CDs. If you leave the car for an extended period, I would first eject all the CDs. That prevents the error because there are no CDs to cycle through.

Its not an elegant solution, but its worked well for the last two years.

Thanks for your reply. I tried pressing eject, load, and CD for a while but all I get is "initializing". I don't think there are any CD's in there. It has been a while since I have used the changer. I usually just use AUX port.

Anyone have a spare shaker 500 laying around?

I had the same issue, took it into ford and they replaced it that day no questions asked. but if youre in the mood for a new head unit, its a good excuse to start shopping

I got a new one in the mail and had it installed today. It has the same CD error as my original unit. At least with this one I can hear the mechanics of the changer moving inside.
Is it at all possible that there is a fault that I need to clear somewhere or did I receive a broken unit?

I don't really understand what goes wrong inside, so its hard to tell exactly what to do to clear the error. I have had the mechanical cycling noises, and I've had just the initialization error, and in both cases I just played with it until the error cleared.

Based on my experience, if its cycling mechanically you can bring it back to life. Pushing the eject button and turning the unit on and off eventually cleared the error on mine and it went back to normal. However, I don't have any particular steps to go through.

Same problem here with my '07. Unhook the battery and it should stop...for awhile. I use my Ipod 'cause I don't trust the thing.
