Battery tender vs battery charger?

Bought a battery tender tonite since it was on sale. I have a battery charger but I thought I would buy myself an early Christmas gift. I assume it is more convenient as you can just leave it on until spring but are there any other benefits that I can use to justify this purchase if my wife notices it?:kooky:

Battery tender is "smart" it won't overcharge your battery. It has reverse polarity protection. Changes charging depending on certain weather conditions. In general it's much safer for you and your battery and should serve you well for years like mine does !

Battery Tender

Good investment. Keeps batteries from dead cell syndrome when not in use for a while. Just tell the wife you bought it to keep her from getting stranded somewhere in the wild with a dead battery. Yeah.....thats the ticket....haha.

i have both the positive and negative clips on the corresponding posts which i have been told is fine however it also comes with hardware to mount to the chassis which i have been told grounds the car. where would you mount this and do this.?is it advisable? do you keep the red clip on the battery positive post and mount the black hardware to a bolt in the engine bay? or should i leave it as is?

That other harness is to permanently connect, rather than using the clips every time. I do it this was the battery is in the back so I have the wires run out from under the carpet where it's easy to plug into without messing up the NOS and all that jaz everytime.

Sure..you can easily justify the cost by the extra life you'll get out of the battery. I use one during the winter months on my boat battery. I finally replaced it this year after 10 years of use. The guy at Batteries Plus said the only people that get that kind of service from a battery are those that use tenders.

Just wondering is it better to just leave the car alone or should I start it and let it run every couple of weeks also should I worry about flat spots on my tires from not moving the car for months the tires aren't cheap

I've always heard to not start it during the winter. You could always store your car on jack stands to eliminate the possibility of flat spots.

There's another thread on here about flat spots and the synopsis on it is flat spots don't happen on modern inflated tires. As far as starting it, gas defiantly does go bad, and IMO I'd like to keep lube all over the car. That why I start mine at least once a week, usually drive around the block and park it. Maybe F8lbite knows more about winter than me bc I have no seasons here in Cali but for me I always start the car and don't see any damage it will do even if it doesn't help

I heard its not good to put on stands either as the wheels hang and this affects the suspension

fyi in the states you can pick up a 6amp battery charger at Oreillys for abt 40bux. I dont drive the stang much in winter even in SoCal. so i take a reading with multimeter twice a month and let it charge in garage as needed.i park the beater on the street.
