2005 + Mustang... Manual vs Automatic in the quarter mile... which is fastest?

Just curious if there's a definitive answer here for these cars? Generally it seems like autos should be faster due to being able to load up the converter and the quicker shifts, but then if somebody's really good at launching with the clutch and rowing the gears....

What are your thoughts on this? Any numbers to back it up? Anybody run head to head?

It's all driver dependent. There's no real firm answer.

Proven by who??? People who can't drive a stick? :hihi: I still say it depends on the driver.

stlwagon is correct, with a skilled driver the stick wins. I see it at the track all the time.

With added weight of an auto, lower gear ratio the autos come with. Its a drivers race.
Purely IMO

There's no definitive answer to this question. No two cars are modded alike, and if you're talking stock... who cares??

But, for the record... I've only been beaten by a manual trans S197 a couple times... but they had blowers on, and I didn't.

It doesn't really matter if you have a manual or an automatic...

5TWENTY's is faster

But STLWAGON's is right there and don't get anyone started on V6 vs. V8 because "The Mistress" will come up and embarrass everyone.

What you need is a black Mustang, to go fastest. It's just a faster color

2006 Black, GT, spoiler delete, five speed, leather, custom welded straight pipes with resonators, sequential turn signals, Hurst Pro Performance shifter. FRPP 4.10s with Motive bearing kit, Spydershaft one piece aluminum driveshaft, w/ Spicer 1330 U-joints, Steeda UCA and LCAs, chrome moly panhard rod. bye bye wheel hop, hello traction! SCT XCalII, BBK CAI, ZEX 100 shot.

LOL!! Everyone knows red is faster silly I say it's driver dependent also...

I was depressed last night so I called Lifeline.

Got connected to a call center in Pakistan.
I told them I was suicidal.
They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck.

ROFL!!!! Thanks for laugh!

BTW... stock I think the autos shift way to soft/smooth... Ford doesn't want you to feel the shift... so it ends of feeling more like a slide than a shift... and this makes the shift pretty slow..

Now on the flip side... add a good tune and the shifts will be much quicker... Now, i'm too much of a chicken poop to power shift... so having a hard, quick shifting auto is a good alternative for me... (let me tell you, my WOT shifts chirp 1-2 and 2-3... )
