Is the GT fender badge on my 2006 GT applied with 3M tape or is it bolted on? I'd like to change it up with another emblem. I believe it can be heated and removed. Thanks.
I hear it will leave holes in your fender if you take it off. Just like I was contemplating taking my running ponies off. Adhesive AND two holes in the body. This is the very first time I've ever run into locator pins and holes in the body for a badge. Don't know about the '06 models, but I have a feeling it's all a government plot in ways.
If you have another badge to cover it all up, then I say go for it!
As stated, there are two holes. I applied '65 GT badges; cut off the bottom post, and left the top post to seat and align the badge on the fender hole. Then filled the hollow back of the badge with jb weld and applied 3m tape to attach. It's been on for three years now and they are still nice and tight. I considered the '68 fender badges, like the one on that Legend Lime, but the posts wouldn't line up at all, so you'd have to measure it on the body. The '68 badges are the same length as the s197 GT emblems, for what it's worth. Hope this helps!
I just snapped these- the rear view of the posts on my original GT badges that I removed. Hope this helps! You will most likely find that the tri bar pony has one or two posts, and that you can use one of them to anchor the badge into one of the holes on the fender; just clip off and sand down the other post.
That's awesome! Couldn't ask for more, Edmund. Good solution leaving one post intact. I'm submitting my order now. Any difficulties extracting the old emblem and pins?
I used a hair dryer and some fishing line to remove mine, and it was followed up with some Goo Gone, as mentioned by ViktoriaGT, to remove the residual gunk from the fender. You can also pour a little goo gone onto the badges to get things loosened up for the fishing line.
Just take your time, and don't rush; believe me, you'll want to as the badges start to come away from the body. The process left no discernible marks or scratches on the finish. Have fun and post pics to share your adventure !
Thanks again Edmund. Other than coming by and swapping them out for me, not sure what more you can do!
I like your retro GT badge. And the chrome trim around your grille similar to the Bullitt grille. Nice touch.
Also like your pirates flyin' the Jolly Roger. Fellow pirate myself from Tampa.
