I just got my car a couple weeks ago, and its time to do the first oil change, and I was wondering what kind of oil would be best to use. I really want to put synthetic, but I do not know if this would have any bad effects on my car. If somebody could just tell me what brand of oil and what weight would be the best that would be awsome. Thank you in advance.
I know there are hundreds of other post about this but I searched for a while and just could not find exactly what i was looking for.
isn't royal purple susposed to be the best and i was watching power block the other day and they changed the oil in a crate motor and it actuslly gave it 8+ hp i forget what kind of filter though but is that even possible?
Royal Purple- 5w20 is the best as far as I'm concerned. I've used it for 20K + Miles with great results. I will be doing another post this week on my results usin Royal Purple everywhere in my GT. The results are amazing.

If you want to change to synthetic oil, there is no reason to wait for any length of time or specific mileage to do so.
I see everyone mentions that 5W20 is the correct weight for the 4.6L Mustang GT engine. 5W20 is what's specified for my '96 and '01 Cobras, too. But the GT500 came with 5W50 full synthetic oil installed at the factory. Maybe anyone who has swapped a supercharger for their Mustang GT intake manifold should be switching to 5W50 also?

I'm using Royal Purple 5w20 Synthetic & i'm very happy with it. I'm using Royal Purple for my Trans, Gears and LSD as well. They claim the car gains HP when switching to synthetic. My feels a little more resonsive and certainly drives better.

I've always heard that an engine should be broken in before switching to synthetic. Planning on making the switch in my car around 5K.
