Sold my 2005 GT vert, and have missed it ever since. Picked up a 2006 GT at an auction. However, the key is missing. Now, looking at the interchange info....according to what I've found....I can use pretty much anything after 2000. Be it from a Focus, F150 or even the Explorer. Now, I'm wondering if it'll work right off the bat? Or, if it needs to be programmed to my car? Or, is the coding in the key and tumbler switch enough? Any info would be much appreciated....
When I bought my '06 last May it only came with one key. A few weeks ago I lost that key. I called up an auto locksmith who came out and made a new key which had to be programmed for my car. He also made a key which will open the door however, without the programming this "wallet" key will not start the car.
So yes, you need a key programmed for your car.
One caveat. I don't know if this is true. The locksmith said if you go to a dealership they will require, or at least insist, on making 2 keys. The cost, he says is around 800 bucks.
Yikes....that's what I'm afraid of. I've found several local recyclers that have the ignition switch with a key for cheap. I'm wondering if that transceiver works with the ECM. Or, if they are hard coded into the ECM and transceiver? Where they have to match to allow the car to start. If it's just a matter of the key matching to the transceiver, and giving the ECM and "OK" signal...a swap might be the easiest route for now. Soooo...if anyone knows, if it's a matter of the transceiver having to match with the ECM, or key matching to transceiver...and allowing car to start?
What I was thinking...was remove and replace the whole thing. It'll have the transceiver, and key. Would that work? Or is the ECU programmed to the stock key?
What ever you do , replace ignition lock cylinder or the whole thing you need to go to ford dealer to erase all key codes from p.c.m and have them program two new keys.
If you get a scanner that can connect to your PC you can download "FORscan" free off the internet and it will allow you to reprogram your PATS system free of charge. It's a nifty little program just for FORD owners. It will also work with Android but that version is not free.
Man I'm upset you sold the 2005 GT vert. I have the same year 05 convertable and love it! Unfortunately you have to get your key programmed.
