Default Curing rust on my 2005 Mustang

I know theres no worse nightmare to any mustang owner than the presence of rust underneeth the car. I've never really worried too much about it till I moved to the east coast. When I noticed that the axle and the U-joint were covered in surface rust. I want to go and run it down to bare metal, but i'm not sure what to coat it with. I have a can of stuff I use at work that we coat our jets with to prevent rust, called Solid Film. I guess what my question is: Would this be something that'd work on my car? Or is there any of you guys would recomend?

The axle and u joints are fine; no matter where you live they are going to eventually rust, they are cast iron, if it makes u feel better buy some flat black engine paint and go to town; it will stay on even with the rust.

where'd you move from?
if anywhere near ocean it's just surface corosion...i agree with the guy above me...paint it and there will be no issues maybe some high-high grit sandpaper on it to smooth it out and you'll be fine

Those parts are rusted before the cars even reach the dealer. No big deal. A wire brush and some Rustoleum will take car of it.

I've seen a number of peoples' statements to the effect that that suface rust actually protects the metal from serious damage, and that messing with it just leads to a lifelong maintenance requirement on an otherwise ignorable non-problem.

I'm not even sure I would spray ArmorAll or WD40 on it; they likely contain something that would undermine the natural adhesion between the rust and the metal, and there you are on the slippery slope.

Until you find yourself in a situation where you frequently park over mirrors, I'd say normal anti-road-salt washing, if needed, should be sufficient.
