Gas tank won't fill when hot

Have a 2007 4.0L Convertible that the gas nozzle shuts off at about 1/2 tank when the weather or the car is warm/hot. Cold days the problem is much less. No DTC's Passes all Smoke tests. Have replaced all EVAP components and the gas tank and filler neck. Assume gas fumes cannot escape but cannot figure why.

Turn the nozzle upside down and that will help avoid the problem. This was a problem when the S197 first came out that many owners reported. Looks corny standing there holding the nozzle upside down, but if the nozzle cuts off early try turning it upside down.

Also, does this tend to occur at a particular gas station you use?

I agree with ONEZ ST. I had a 2007 4.0 that had the same issue at certain gas stations. I used the method that he described.

2006 GT, Strut Tower Brace, Gas Hood Struts, FR Intake Plenum cover, Metal Fuse Box cover, Moroso brake reservoir cover, Rear shock tower brace, Front Bumper Lip Spoiler, JVC DVD Head unit w/ back-up camera, satellite Radio and USB input, 2 - 12" sub-woofers, 4 - 6"x8" speakers, 2 - 6.5" speakers to replace the door subs, 3 amplifiers, LED lights under the hood and in the trunk, chrome e-handle on parking brake handle, chrome cup holder trim, and trunk lid cover with running pony emblem.

The gas station I use has 12 pumps. 2 of the pumps there I can't use, can't get more than a half tank before they act as if the tank is full. I stay away from those pumps and don't have any problems with any of the other pumps.

Same here, also I rarely let it go beyond half a tank before I fill up.

We have a new 2019 GT and same problem. Have to turn the fuel nozzle up to fill. Happens at most pumps.

Very common problem I have had on many 2005+ Mustangs. Doesn't this have to do with the duel tank style and something about the pump doesn't adequately pump it from one side to the other fast enough at fill ups as it ages or something? Been a while since discussed, but I think that is the case. Right?

The problem is not with your car but with the stations vent/vapor recovery system

This is a good answer, but I will say I have had trouble with 2005+ Mustangs shutting off before full and as a test had my wife pull up right behind me to same pump and it filled her car just fine. Did this a few different times over the years with various 2005+ Mustangs so this isn't always the case unless you are saying the stations vent/vapor recovery systems just aren't very compatible with 2005+ Mustang's tank filler systems...

Wink

I solved the problem...bought a Japanese made car...

The Mustang has been sitting in the garage mostly, for five years now.

I could never figure out just how to hold a vapor recovery nozzle upside down....too bulky for that.
