Default 2006 Mustang V6.How to increase HP and Performance

Ok, I've got a 2006 V6, ad I am wanting to do something to up the horse power/performance. Anyone got some suggestions on simple things I could do that would substantially increase my performance other than dropping thousands on a turbo or something?

well my tuner will be here in a few days

2005-2007 Mustang V6 Ignition

get the package then go get u some autolite platnums, gap them out to .65

this coil takes your stock 32,000V (0.42 gap ) to 45,000 ( 0.65 )
u can feel the juice!

your best bet, probably least expensive, would be the CAI set-up and a performance tune. Single gt takeoff exhaust,,and maybe the ciol set up

Give us a dollar amount and let us give ideas on best way to spend. $1000? $500? $200? You said not thousands, so how much? Also, are you handy with cars or shall we consider installation costs?

Well, I've got close to $2,000 dollars plus close to 6 or 700 that I'll get from selling my guitar. I'm willing to spend all of it, and I am definately not handy with cars. So installation would probably be a factor if I couldn't find a buddy to help me.

Well, that is a lot. Of course, you could dump 5 times that if you wanted. There are many here who are experts and will, I am sure, provide an opinion of how to spend your money. Personally, I'd put some aside until you are sure which way you want to go.

For performance, I'd start with a cold air intake and tuner (about $500) and dual exhaust ($100 up to $1000 or more, newtakeoffs.com has a kit for about $300 then maybe $120 to install). You will not get a lot of performance from the duals, but they sure look good! IMHO I'd do those things first then see if you are starving for more power or if you want some dress up stuff.

So many varying opinions here, but you can't go wrong with starting with the two items above then seeing where you want to go from there. Think it through and let the money last you...it is addicting

Ok, thanks. But a lot of people have been saying to get a tuner, and honestly, I have no idea what that is.

Your car is run by a computer, called an ECU. A tuner will allow you to upload a different "program" to your ECU, which will adjust timing, air to fuel ratio, shift firmness (automatics only) and other parameters to increase performance. Several kinds of tunes are available, some focus on overall performance, some aim for more torque and others are developed for racing. Different octane levels are also available ranging from 87 through 93 octane. The higher the octane, the more performance increase you're likely to see.

As for my opinion on mods and how to get faster, it's pretty much the same as the other guys. A cold air intake and tuner is a good start as well as exhaust. A performance single muffler will get you just as good performance as a dual exhaust set up. Taller gears and a limited slip differential will really get you moving in a hurry for around $700-800. Short throw shifters are a popular choice among us manual transmission folks. Hurst makes a nice one for around $180. An aluminum drive shaft will help to free up some rotational mass and help the car get going faster.

i would start out with a cold air intake, then get an exhaust, then a tuner, steeper gears, short throw shifter...thats where you probably want to start out

As everybody else said, start with a CAI + tune!!!!! Then you can look into exhaust, gears, suspension, etc.

Haha, I tried that. I was looking at a super clean 2001 Cobra with 19,000 miles on it. It already had a cold air intake, but it was like $1,000 dollars per six months to insure. As compared to the around $600 that I'm paying now. That's why I'm wanting to supe mine up.

05-08 Mustang V6 C&L Intake and Predator COMBO [CNLPredatorV6COMBO] - $599.00 : Bamachips, The Mustang Tuning Source

Check out this combo for starters. Good company, good tunes.
A single BIGGER muffler will also do wonders before going duals. The stock V6 muffler is very restrictive.
I was concerned about doing the tune myself but the step by step instructions are very well written.

These simple mods do breathe new life into that pony

do you ever plan on going forced injection (supercharge or turbo)? if so don't bother with bolt ons and just keep saving up because some bolt ons are not compatable with forced injection.

If you don't plan on f/i, I would...

-Bamachips tuner and CAI - 600 - i have no experience with cars and did this myself. I'm in high school too. You can do this without a problem.

-Axleback MUFFLER - 100-300 (or gt takeoff for <100) - install should be 50 - 75 dollars. a lot of people say you don't need any expirience to do this, but if you're really nervous or weren't able to do the CAI go to a local shop.

-If you are automatic buy 4.10 gears - 160

-If you are manual buy 3.73 gears - 160

-FRPP 28 spline limited slit differential - 200

-Gears master install kit - 100

-Install cost for gears and LSD - 300-400

-Aluminum driveshaft from shaftmasters.com - 450 - i would guess install is 50 - 100

-New tires rated for speeds up to around 150 to be safe - 400

TOTAL : 2500 - 2800.
Might be as high as 3000 with shipping but if thats the case you don't need the tires right away.

Goodluck!
