Hey so I have a 2005 Pony. I was wondering if anyone else has been having problems with their speedometers? I noticed that it started on long trips about 50 miles or more and all of a sudden my speedometer would read 100 mph and I would only be going 65. It has gotten worse and now I get to play the game guess how fast your going. Do you know a good place to get the Speedometer fixed? I want to get the best job for the least amount of money.

Same problem!!

Hey I'm a fellow 2005'er and I had the EXACT * i stress this because i think the 2005 had a LOT of problems that might have been fixed in later years of the same model * problem you had. For well over a week my speedometer read over 120 mph, even stopped and or parked.

I had ford fix it, grudgingly and it took a LOT of convincing that it was their problem, warranty and all.

I ended up actually doing the MyColor swap, and I've gotta say it really should have come STOCK on our cars!

It's amazing to see the different colors you can have up on your dash, especially if you get an upgraded radio, and then matching the dash to the radio.....mmmmm :shigrin

So get F O R D to fix it first, and look into the upgrade. It's really as easy an upgrade as I've had on my car, and I've done quite a few things to her in the last 5 years.

Enjoy the ride :bigthumbsup

I've been having the same problem for a few years now. I'm to the point where I just guess my speed and rely on my radar detector to keep me out of trouble... I've looked and looked over the years and this is the first time someone has shown something about these "stepper motors." If I get one of these, how hard is it to fix? Any write-ups anywhere or instructions? because if this is the solution to my two-year problem, then hell, I'll buy the part tonight!

i never had any problems, but traded my perfectly good cluster in on the mycolor. no regrets at all. another member here posted the stepper motor find on here a long time ago, but i kept the link. the guy on that site says they have instructions and offers help if you need it :bigthumbsup you`ll have to have a solder sucker and resolder. if i had any problems, i would try it, not much to loose :)

05 Mustang Dash Steppers

Just an FYI my speedo has been stuck at 110 for months and would randomly move around all the way up to 150's. After reading this post I ordered a stepper from Ebay but could not wait so I pulled the dash to see for my self. There are 6 steppers all the same for the Tach, Speedo, Fuel, Batt, Oil and temp gauges. I noticed all the steppers had removable covers they just snap on. So I pulled the cover off the speedo stepper since it was already bad I felt I couldn't do any more damage. What I found is 2 very tiny plastic gears with a couple coils next to them. They were very easy to pull out. To remove the bottom gear you have to slightly spread one of the coils. I decided to take the gears out of the Battery guage and put them in the speedo stepper, since I can live with a intermittent battery gauge until I get the new stepper. It turns out the bad spot in the gears doesn't seem to effect the battery guage and the speedo now works perfectly. I wish I had taken pictures! I will when I get the new stepper.

I have the same issue, it is intermittent though. At first I was just gonna replace the stepper motors, then I decided I'll just wait and do the mycolor swap this summer

ya, its a better looking cluster with the xtra gauges, and the colors are cool, but the info center is way cool :bigthumbsup

The info center is what I really want. The 2 extra gauges and mycolor would be real nice too :winks

My daughter has a 2005 Mustang and her speedometer has flipped all the way over pass the maximum speed and the RPM reader does not rest at 0 when you turn the engine off. I don't know what speed or rpm this car is running on. This is very dangerous.

I have a 2005 mustang v6 manual transmission. All four of the gauges in the dashboard work on the same stepper motors. 1 for each gauge. My fuel gauge stopped working and replacing the stepper motor worked (Less than $10). Just replace the stepper motor with the gauge you are having problems with. You do have to know how to solder. The annoying thing was calibrating all the gauges to "0". Kind of a trial and error method. Here are two youtube videos that helped me:

(This is to get the gauge cluster out)
