Default Mustang GT bumpers on V6 Mustang

hey guys

i vaguely remember seeing a thread about this but i could not find it.

I'll start with the story.

Some POS backed into my stang while it was parked and not only cracked the front bumper but hit the car hard enough to make the rear bumper hit the wall leaving enough scratches to warranty a new paint job.

Now to my question.

I have a friend who with the same color stang who is getting a body kit for his GT and is willing to give me his bumpers
Has anyone intalled the gt bumpers on to a V6 and if so how difficult was it? Will i need new absorbers and clips or are the gt bumpers a direct fit?

Default saw one from the dealer

I havent done it, but it should be very straigh forward. I saw a v6 at the dealer with a GT bumper- must have been a goof they were passing off. I could tell, becuase the 2 semi-circle holes for the exhaust were there, but only one pipe. Made me kinda go , "Hmmm?" Looks like a straight up match, though, other than the dual exhaust issue

It's not quite that easy. The rear is pretty simple (as long as the plastic reinforcements haven't been removed from the GT fascia), just one extra push-pin type plastic fastener needed at the bottom edge of the bumper (V6 comes with two, GT needs 3)

The front requires 2 new front fender splash shields (the V6 ones are shaped differently), a splash shield that goes under the radiator that isn't on the V6 and various screws, and clips, not to mention a wiring harness (either bought or home made) if you want the fog lights to function. The bumper foam under the front skin is also slightly different.

I just changed my wife's V6 pony package rear cover..the wiring harness for the side lights and tag is pop rivited to the fascia...no big deal. drill them out but I put a push in type plug back in instead. And yep there are 3 plastic braces for the GT bumper on the bottom...hole was already there..no biggie..very easy swap.
No idea bout the front but I can see where the splash sheilds would be different. seems like Torch Vert has been there

oh.....sorry bout the POS that backed into ya...but then again...might not be so bad after all and the rear absorber is the same..I think...I didnt change mine and fit fine. should need 7 new clips for the rear cover or you can pop rivit the harness back in...then 1 clip is all you need.

Yep, changed mine out last year. It's not a bad job, certainly something that can be tackled at home

I'd recommend dropping a note to Kevin Casey (05stangkc on the boards). He's a Ford parts manager as well as a Mustang enthusiast, and was able to set me up with every screw, clip and piece to do the job factory perfect at a reasonable price. Here's a link to his contact info: http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=35197
