Hey everyone, i'm new to the forums and i'm sure there are other posts about this but i'm at a stopping point on trying to fix my 05 V6 mustang. Now let me make a long story short. My wipers used to work on only the high setting(low and med didn't work) That was about a week ago (in the mean time it rained, making my passenger side floor damp), and now they have completely stopped working. I just replaced my wiper motor and still no luck. I checked my fuses and all seemed okay. Tomorrow i'm going to be checking the voltage going to the WM connector but don't know the diagram or what wires to test etc. Side note does anyone know where the wiper motor relay/ control module is?
Anything that can help me would be greatly appreciated as i am lost and trying to get her running again before the next rain...
Forgot to mention, my AC stopped working completely at the same time as my wipers
The clue here I think is the passenger side floor being damp. Check out the SJB located inside the passenger side kick panel. Look for moisture, water or corrosion. While you're at it, check the cowl drains (there are many threads dealing with this issue elsewhere on the forum). Basically it sounds like the drains are plugged up, water then enters the cabin via the cabin air filter and then runs down into the SJB, shorting it out. All kinds of wierd and bad things happen after that. Please check it out and check those drains.
Alright, so woke up this morning mustang wont turn over and just got that working now, was difficult due to where i parked it. Now onto the drain, i checked it and unclogged it etc and it looks good. While on the SJB I don't know exactly what i'm looking for, from what i can tell it looks fine, i didn't see any corrosion or water in it from what i can quickly tell. Please let me know any more details that may be relevant! Also thank you for your help thus far, it is greatly appreciated!
So were the drains clogged? Was there any standing water in the trough? When was the last time it rained? I know, more questions. But they are relevant. I still think it could be the SJB, but have you checked the fuses? I mean really checked them?
Yeah the drains were clogged, and last week it rained here for a few days while i was out of town, but when i checked it, there was no water in it at all.. I'll be checking it more tonight after i finish work. But if the SJB is toasted, do they still sell them, or will i have to go get one from another mustang? I know if i do get one, ill have to take it in and get it programmed for my car
Sounds to me like a definite possibility. If you need to purchase a new SJB I believe Ford still sells them, but at a premium of course. You'd probably be better off looking around for one off a wrecked Mustang, and checking the features against your car. Still probably have to have it programmed, but it would be way cheaper.
you can search on here on how to take apart the sjb. fairly easy. undo the negative batt cable. pull the kickpanel cover off. 1 10mm bolt holds it to the car. take that off, unplug all the plugs and inspect. once you have it out, the case unsnaps off of it. from there you can further assess the situation. I doubt its fried completely, but a possiblilty. use some contact cleaner and clean up the corrosion on the board and in the pigtails (connectors) and go from there. good luck
Ive been pulling fuses, and closely inspecting them to check for corrosion etc. While on the interior fuse box, I pulled fuses # 3, 4, 6, 7 (those being: *wiper power* power mirrors, accessory delay feed, and overdrive cancel. On the connectors they looked corroded, so ill be replacing them tomorrow (dang auto parts stores closing at 9 here..) With all those being corroded that makes me worried that the SJB is corroded in that area, but will be dismantling it tomorrow when i get a longer 10mm socket.
With those fuses being corroded, could this have an energy drain on my battery? Just curious since i had to jump it the other day and its back to the same 10.3 amps.
that's more than likely the culprit of your battery drain. IIRC, everything going into the SJB is "hot" or powered. this can cause all kinds of problems when water enters the chassis. I.E. going thru large puddle on my way to work, turned car off and noticed that just 1 light on my pass side rear brake lights was on. water had gotten in and grounded out the lead and kept light on, had to take rear trunk panel off to unplug that light so as not to drain battery. this is just one example. hopefully your on the right track, keep us posted. good luck
OK, when you take the SJB out take a picture (or pictures) of both sides of the board BEFORE you do anything else. Trust me you'll be happy you did if you need further help. Then if you see any surface corrosion, you can try cleaning it off with isopropyl alcohol and an old tooth brush. Be gentle, you don't want to damage any components or traces. Let the board dry COMPLETELY, before you even think about putting it back in. Like let it set for a couple of hours (overkill really, but super safe). Then re-install and see what happens. Get back to us with results! Good luck!
Update, I managed to take out the sjb and took one side of the panel out, but for the life of me, i cant figure out how to see the other side of the panel. Any suggestions? I attached the links for the photos i have as of now
Actually, looking at the photos you took, (which were great by the way), I don't know either. I personally have not had this problem, but know many people that have. But if you look at the pic with the black covering everything, one of the pin connectors has some blue on it. This may be corrosion. Look at it closley and see. There's got to be a way to take those covers off, I would think.
I'm a bit confused and call me on it if I'm wrong, your pics look to be the fuse box from inside the engine compartment? looking at the pics I see a relay? the SJB that I'm familiar with has connectors on the outer ring of the box and not the top and bottom per se.
Update, I figured out how to get to the other side of the panel (had to take all of the fuses out.... Then it just popped right out with no problem.) Will be attaching pics below
bl817 that is the sjb, the sjb has a fuse box attached to it, so its easy to get it confused with the engine bay fuse box. But yeah it does have that relay, and it does have connectors on the exterior of the black box which i took off to have full access to it..
Another update, i don't know if u can see in the pictures, but a good amount of connectors on the panel have signs of corrosion, so i'm slowly cleaning them. Also went to Auto zone and picked up a fuse tester, and a few of the fuses weren't working properly due to the corrosion etc...(i'm replacing all of them just to be safe) so hopefully this will solve my issues, will update when everything is done...
Sounds like you're on the right track. Corrosion will cause all kinds of strange behavior. Good luck.

Final update, I checked over everything a more times, cleaned my connections, and connectors and just everything in general. Put it back in, plugged it in, then put in a new battery and everything cranked up just fine, wipers work, ac works. Everything seems fine.
Thankyou MirageII, and bl817 for all your help and input, my pony has risen from the dead and kicking it again. If someone has a similar issue send them my way or to this post.
Woo-Hoo!!! Glad to hear you're crusin' again. Enjoy!
Now keep those drains clear!
