Default 2008 jack points

My owners manual shows a picture of the rear diff with a jack under the center of it stating specifically not to jack the rear of the car up there?
I've been doing this for 33 years on other RWD cars. Is there something different with this rear axle that I'm not aware of.
Or, is it that they dont want you to use the factory jack there for liability reasons? The picture shows a std floor jack.

How about up front? Is it safe to jack up with the front cross member?

Thanks All
Love this car!!!

If you look in the Tech Links above on page 4 you will find the info you need along with a lot of other good info..

The reason for that is the stamped steel cover extends past the center section and if you jack it form there it will bend it and cause a oil leak.

Thanks for the link info, good stuff. I didn't even see it.

I can take care of the cover flange issue.

Now back to the tech links!

I too have been using the rear diff to jack up cars for years.

On my 07, the diff cover does not extend below the center section, so no problem using it, unless there's another reason...........

I have a LPW cover on mine so it doesn't make any difference for me. But others have had problems. It might have been there jack or the way they had it under the center section.

I would never use the pumpkin as a jack point on these cars.

In the diagram it shows the axle tube as jack points is that for stands? Also the front center area … where do you place a floor jack there? I've never looked.

Yes you can place your stands there. If you look under there its the Kmember they are talking about

The tube itself can be used as a jack point. But you'll need a tall floor jack.

I have the stands under the tube and front frame rails. I will paint (attempt) the calipers tomorrow. Looks like that would be much easier if the calipers were removed first.

I bent my rear cover with a floor jack causing it to leak.
my jack has tabs around the edge of the jack that caught the cover and rolled it enough to leak. Im not jacking mine there again. nope

Yes, both of my floor jacks have the 4 tabs on the round rotating cup. I usually put a piece of plywood in between.
The jack creeps forward when you get some height … 2-3" say under the tire.

Mine slipped too but it slipped forward. If it had slipped the other way I would have ripped the cover off.

I havent had the rear of mine jacked up yet, but where do you put the jack? That is where I have always jacked up the rear on other cars before.
