I know it's funny. I see guys do it all the time at the track...sounds like the motor just shot spark plugs in 8 directions. People almost hit the ground in terror. I'm like uh hey if you just put on a line lock for like $100 bucks you can spin all day without hitting the limiter.

I think the max power on a stock GT is put out at about 5750 rpm so i dont think you should ever really need to hit the rev limit

That happened a couple of times when I first got the Mustang as well, until I finally figured out what was happening. You hit 6000 rpms so quickly in first gear that you don't realize it.

A couple weeks ago I stopped on a real nice road and took it to around 3k and dumped the clutch and before I knew it I was on the limiter and went for second and finely stopped spinning the tires. I could just imagine another 150HP would do.
