Default Do you need a tune after installind UDP?

I just bought some steeda underdrive pulleys and I was wondering if i need to tune the car after the install?

General rule of thumb... If it doesn't affect air flow it doesn't require a tune.

how hard is it to install an UDP? I heard you need a belt tensioner and some fancy stuff. I was planning on a UDP but the install kinda turned me off from this mod

Belt tensioner comes with the car. You just need a 1/2" socket wrench to free it and the belt comes right off. It's a pretty straight forward install with no special tools needed.

3 jaw pulley (gear) puller and a impact wrench will go very far on this install. extremely useful

Steeda Underdrive Pulley install (with pics) - MustangForums.com

i used that site, and it worked very well for me. although i did need a brass piece to make the bolt on the gear pulley go a little further. otherwise the bolt would have never seated and it would have never come off.

I had ABSOLUTELY NO experience working on cars when i did this, and got through it fine. i did my CAI, tune, and axle back while i was at it too.... good weekend

Get a Chrysler 3-jaw puller from Autozone. Works like a champ. You'll also need a harmonic balancer installer.

you dont necessarily "gain" but you will see 10 more HP at the wheels. no bad side effects, unless you plan on going F/I in the future, in which case you should stay with the stock pulleys (right?)

Not sure if there's a direct link but my alternator eventually failed.

My mother's battery on her espace died the other day but it was not from a weak alternator, it was from her driving habits. She would turn the car on, drive the 1 mile to work, then turn it off. Get in, drive 1 mile home and turn it off. Eventually the battery died because the alternator never had sufficient time to charge the battery. Not to mention the engine never gets a chance to actually warm up. She had the car since March and has 1,200 miles on it. She should belong to Mr V's PPR with that kind of mileage

As I understand it if you have a shaker 1000 stereo then you should not get pulleys because it takes too much power from the stereo.

A friend of mine and I just installed the Steeda UDP's last month. He's a lot more experienced in working on engines than I am, but, having done it once with help, I think I could do it again by myself. So, if you have a friend that you can bribe with a case of beer to help (or even to hang out and give you a second opinion!) it definitely goes alot more smoothly.

The tutorial that sleeper108 linked to is the main one we used, but I read through a bunch of different ones, plus the Steeda install instructions beforehand.

An impact wrench definitely makes the job a lot easier. I wouldn't want to have done it without one.

One part that I ignored in the instructions that I shouldn't have was the part about disconnecting the battery. The pulleys ran fine for a few days, and but at one point, I hammered on the car and the check engine light came on. The codes indicated a misfiring cylinder. Someone else on a different forum had had the same issue, and they also hadn't unplugged the battery. I unplugged, and let it sit, and haven't seen the CEL since.

Not really true but if you have anything larger it might be an issue.
