i have 05 procharger auto with 427 rwhp and i want to make 500rwhp can my auto tran can hold that much
my car 10 psi now and i know if u want more boost u have to forge induction can u guy let me know what i have to buy and how much to support 500rw
thanks guy
yea, the tranny will be OK to that point, but your block/internals will be begging for mercy unless you go forged internals, you'd be well served to get a built motor all the way around if you're looking for 500

The do or die line on the 5R55S trans appears to be in the 550-600 range, but some can go higher, some not so high. I've had mine beefed up, but I'm probably on the edge right now. If I do break it, I'm going to swap in a built 4R70W.

However, for 500 you need to have better Piston, rods, and crank installed. Shop around, if your not doing a lot of the work yourself some have found it cheaper to just buy a forged shortblock.

Well I am glad they all think it will be fine. My 5R55S was toast at about 444 RWHP for 3200 miles and some hard runs. I have seen excessive amount of people who had the tranny die in that power range. Usually third gear goes, the OEM converter or the pump. Some real high HP cars have twisted the input shaft
I went to a Level 10 stage III tranny two years ago and have never had any problems since.
So from my experience and all the people I have sen that have lost their 5r55S, it is a crapshoot if it will last over 450-500 RWHP.
Some have had good luck BUT there are a large number of these trannies that have failed.

I concur that a stock 5R55S can go at below 500. My comment above about 550-600 was directed at all 5R55S's... even the built ones. I only know of one or two that lasted beyond the 600 range. I'm making well over 500 tq now, but like I said, I don't expect mine to live forever...

my car was at 11psi. exactly runnning a max of 20* timing on my race tune on 93octane , and you should be fine but its all a coin toss , one time of getting bad gas = poof , beating on it on a hot day , it all depends you man run it for a while with no problems , hell mike @ powerhouse ran his at 18psi for 2 years , another fella ran a saleen @ 16 for 1 year , its luck of the draw really
you guys really think 10 psi is too much? ive been looking around and it seems that 10 should be fine over that and its a time bomb
I don't think 10psi is too much, as long as the tune is safe. Personally, I'd rather run 10psi with less timing to make XXX hp, than I would 8psi with more timing to make the same XXX hp.

Don_W is 100% right. Over 600 even a built 5R55S could fail. I am just over 500 RWHP.
10 PSI is definately not the limit for the connecting rods though. I have been running 12 PSI forever, so obviously 10 PSI is not the limit.
I am a risk taker I guess. I also dont use this Mustang as a daily driver.
So no guarantees when you go forced induction but there are plenty of people like me who have not blown their engine over 500 RWHP.
