Adaptive learning in the PCM affects all the specified upshifts and downshifts whether it be WOT or closed loop operation.

Well gang, I thought I'd let you all know that Brenspeed has just sent me 3 new tune files to try, after I'd emailed them describing my loss of low end. I'll flash the 91 octane version, and give it a try. If things are better, I'll let you all know.
Thanks, Brenspeed

So what's the verdict? I'm still trying to decide which way to go in regards to a tune.
Our tunes are developed on tons of different cars, with tons of different modificaions. If you ever have a problem, we are more than happy to get you taken care of.

Well, the verdict is... It lost low end again, even with the revised tune. This was noticed when I went up to around 5000 feet + altitude after a long freeway cruise; extremely weak bottom end... At even higher altitude (drove up to top of Mammoth - 9000+ feet), the car was actually scary to drive... Small 4 cylinder cars could walk away from me.
I had to pull over, and re-load the stock tune, and the car was back to the normal slow throttle response, but perfectly driveable at the high altitude. I did not try to flash my Bamachips tune to see if it was better there, I just wanted the car driveable again, so the stock tune went back in, and is still there since the trip about 60 days ago. Car feels fine with the stock tune, except for having the stock (slight) throttle lag.
My recommendation..? Your results may vary. My Bullitt may have something different in the computer that the Brenspeed tune didn't account for at altitude; don't know. Maybe others have no trouble at high altitude, but I sure did. Not just the normal high altitude power loss from less density; it was as if flooring the pedal only opened the throttle by 1/8...
In all fairness, when I first load the Brenspeed tune at around 300 feet above sea level (where I live), the car is an absolute rocket. It just doesn't stay that way...

Both manual and automatic transmissions have adaptive learning, I just think they react a bit differently, but I'm not positive on that though.
I did find some pertinent information regarding this issue posted on another site, by Doug of Bamachips:

The adaptive learning truly has NOTHING to do with the WOT feel or Open loop operation of the car with a tune, or well most tunes. As described above most good tuners will turn off the ability of the car to apply learned a/f corrections to the WOT tables, now it will do this with the stock file.Still, this isn't the adaptive feature you are looking for.
[...]
I thought this was rather helpful information.
Can anybody tell me what site that was originally posted on?
Been looking for good tuning information, and haven't found much online.

Funny you mention this. I ordered a Brenspeed 93 octane tune about 2 weeks ago for my 09 Bullitt. At first, everything was great then all of a sudden, the low end was really bad. Had to keep rpm's up over 2,500 to 3,000 just starting out from a traffic light! Anything under that and it felt like it was going to stall. By the way, don't think it has anything to do with altitude in my case. Do I have to keep reloading the tune every week or something?
Anyone have an explanation for this? I shouldn't have replied to them so soon after receiving it telling them it was a "killer" tune.

Please write back to them and tell 'em what happened... Maybe if they get a few more Bullitt guys with this same problem, we'll get a tune that keeps on working...
