Default Has anyone relocated the GT front brakes to the rear wheels after a big brake kit?

Hmm...

I got to thinking... Once I get a big brake kit, I'm going to have a nice pair of GT front brakes not being used...

Is it possible to relocate the stock GT brakes to the rears? This would be an added bonus of an aftermarket big brake kit... I know a lot of people have big brakes on the rear wheels...

Has anyone done this or at least thought about it!? Can it be done???

intresting
i was thinking move my backs to front and fronts to back... why ?

so the fronts will have cables and the backs wont.

set E brake, BURN RUBBER!

then let brake off...kinda like a linelock that you cant get out of.

Hahah that'd be cool! But probably unsafe to drive.

Doh! Forgot about the parking brake! I guess you'd have to have something custom made??? (I do have an automatic though... So the parking brake isn't exactly a deal breaker... )

That's not a good idea or will pass a state inspection. But you did bring up a good point. If you try to put the fronts on the back you don't have any e-brake. Not good.

I do remember back last year someone made a bracket and larger rotor to use the stock rear calipers. I don't remember who.

Theres been threads about this in the past but i dont think anyone has ever done it succesfully. Majority of the weight on these cars is in the front, so you need a much larger front braking system.

Not to mention the Ebrake issue and safely mounting the brake, even if you did make the front brakes work in the rear, you may have an issue with brake bias, you would need to introduce a system to adjust the bias between the front and rear brakes or else the breaking would be thrown out of balance. But on the other hand, you have companies like Steeda, who sell upgraded larger rear brake kits, you should get in touch with them and see what they say in ragards to bumping up rear brake stopping power. The GT500 only upgrades the rear pads, otherwise the rear brake is the same.

If you put bigger brakes on the back that what is supposed to be then it's going to bite alot harder than it's supposed to. What will happen when you brake hard, the back end of the car will get very loose. I'd skip this mod.

That's what I was thinking. But what about the people who put 16 inch calipers on the fronts and 14 inch calipers on the rear? There has to be a way to balance it somehow.

Isn't the purpose of ABS to not "have the rear get loose"???

Keep the comments coming... I'm not giving up on this yet!

Well if you want to get into the engineering of it then you need to change the PCM to one that will control the ABS to start with. Then you need to changed the size of the master cylinder plunger to move more fluid and then there is the Booster. you need to re calculate the amount of applied force per inch of water of vacuum. Oh yea the amount of clamping force of the calipers and the different compounds of brake pad material. Not forgetting the size of the brake lines.

Lets see did I forget anything. O yea let me know when your going to be in Pa area. I'll stay off the road.......

And yes if you install a set of cams that will change the amount of available vacuum at low rpm due to the overlap of the cams.

The front to rear bias was already brought up
Just to name a few that's some people forget about.
