Update... Today I plugged the rear passenger seatbelt into its socket on the way to school...
It's slightly more "muffled" and sounds more like something clicking back and forth. Maybe it's something in the rear passenger side seatbelt "compartment"?
Stl, if there is some way for me to get into that seatbelt area, I'd really like to check it out (something in the service manual???).

... and some disturbing hissing noise (anyone know what that was? )
this noise is probably the fuel pump.
As for the other rattle, are you sure it isn't under the car over the axle?
I have had a rattle in my car since the day I bought it. it sounds like it is coming from way back in the back in the trunk. I searched a few things, but not very intent. but, my ratle only happens when I turn at low speeds, or go over speed bumps slowly. weird.
good luck locating your rattle.

I have had this rattle too. As soon as I changed the axlebacks it was gone. Must have been an exhaust hanger....
Before I got to the end of this thread im thinking rear seat belt tensioner.......this really sounds like the problem (with riders in rear hard to hear and seatbelts are on) it all just adds up.
From another thread
a really annoying rattle coming from the rear compartment. After some "debug" time in the back seat while someone else was driving, I isolated the rattle to the rear seatbelt tensioner. The challenge I faced is there is no way to really get to the tensioner-- metal panels are welded into place after these tensioners are installed. There are some circluar cut outs accessable from the trunk, and I was able to stick a wax-style earplug on the side of the tensioner which changed the resonate frequency just enought to resolve the rattle...
Look at the picture above the retainer is held in by one bolt and the edges of the tensioner are metal and its just metal below them .....bet its bangin around

Betcha you're right. OH PLEASE GOD LET HIM BE RIGHT!
It's really strange... Sometimes I'll hear it non-stop full blast and other times it'll be really faint and quite.
I'm checking it right now. (PRAY FOR ME!)

Mine made a similar rattle, but mine turned out to be the exhaust. You can test for this by just jiggling your exhaust tips. It's the hanger hitting part of the body.

Hmm... I'll double check.
I'm VERY sure it's coming from the rear seat belt tensioner. It's really hard to get in there. I think I'll stuff a microfiber towel in there and if that fixes it, I'll look for a more permanent solution.

It was a rattling rear seatbelt tensioner. I fixed it by stuffing a microfiber towel underneath it... You can't see it, and it's 100% removable so I think I'll just stick with that!
Thanks to everyone who helped out in this thread... I truley owe you my sanity!
I will let everyone know tomorrow if it for sure has fixed the problem... A few more test drives won't hurt!
