The vacuum switch still activates it (when vacuum goes away, ie boost, it goes to ON), you just can't turn down the voltage with the dial, because there isn't one.. I guess KB figures if you are in boost (8.5 psi boost minimum on the 2.6l superchargers), you need the full output of the BAP. If you buy one aftermarket, KB doesn't know your needs, so you get a dial to adjust it how you need it. They are very conscious about not pushing the factory pump more than necessary.
Some vendors, like Brenspeed, run it without the vacuum switch and cranked to full (50% or 17 volts). Sure, you get a constant boost in flow and pressure from your pump, but you are pushing it 50% harder 100% of the time, which will dramatically lower the life of the pump.
