Default KN Air Filter for stock air box: enough filtering for the MAF ?

Hello,

I plan to replace at first my Air Filter with the K&N one (the one that fits in the stock Air Box).

This, together with a tune will be my first Mod. I don't want to go for a CAI for now because it would require to get the car to the technical control (that the rule were I live) again and I don't have the time for the moment.

KN claims for 40% more air.

1) Will there be a difference ? It not, not a big deal, price is almost the same as the stock filter!

2) Is the filtration OK and won't I have future problems with the MAF or throttle body ?

Thanks for sharing your experience

I was a believer in K&N until I saw some dyno tests with stock, K&N and NO filter that showed a large filter like what is installed in our cars flows air pretty darn good on the stock motor and the K&N offered no gains. The 40% increase isn't there on a system like that.

I am also not a fan of oiled filters anymore. Check out all the posts on this board about cleaning the throttle body and MAF sensor. I'd say that almost all those people are running an oiled type of filter. When I changed my stock intake to a Bullitt, the throttle body and MAF sensor were pristine clean after 25,000 miles with the stock air filter. The Bullitt filter is also dry.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Good to know. I don't want to spend my time cleaning the MAF!

I put a K&N filter in my 08 GT. Not a big difference but the throttle respsonse was better. Would be a good stopgap until you can get a CAI. I say do it. And our cars will not run without the filter. Too much turbulence on the MAF. It spits and sputters and dies.
