Default C & L's new cold air intake kit

C & L has come out with a new cold air intake kit, that I really like. It seems to be producing the best results than the other cold air intake kits, on the market, for the 05 Mustang GT. However, for whatever reason, C & L has teamed up with Diablosport, and they have produced a new setting on Diablosport's 'Predator,' to give the best tune to the cars computer to allow the most amount of air that will be sucked in to the engine from this new cold air intake kit. I have not heard that many good things about Diablo, when compared to Superchips's Xcalibrator. I was going to buy the Xcalibrator when I read that C & L has got Diablo to produce a specially calibrated tune for the new cold air intake kit. Can I get the best tune with Diablo, as I can get with the Xcalibrator, or can I get the Xcalibrator, and still get the maximum performance out of C & L's kit, without running my engine lean?

WWW.alternativeauto.com will sell the C&L kit with the SCT xcalibrator. They developed a tune just for this mod. I bought the C&L and SCT from them and I love it. Huge difference. I also was also not sold on the predator and am glad I went with the SCT.

My .0002 Euro Cents...

If you're not adding a blue bottle there is no need for the alu intake tube. Nor does the Heat Shield do any good! The OM intake less the extra filter do the same within 5%, RWHPs should not be $100 a piece...

For the tune; pay the $$$ to have it done on a dyno! 9 times outa 10 it will not be $100 a piece HPs!!! (Steeda CAI (and axlbacks, can't remember, Dynaflows?) with average Joe (me for example) Predator tune; 282 RWHP. Last dyno run with professional custom tune (same Predator); 296 RWHP...) All cars are different! One standard tune is probably not right for YOUR car!

But, to be honest I should probably have gone with a full CAI system, what is $350 compared to $200... it looks better, you have the OM tube and filer intakt in a box, you know its right with a minimum of air disturbance... And you have the ease of mind it is the ultimate solution... not half a$$...

I know I'm cotradicting myself here... just wanted to point out it's not neccessary but sertainly not wrong and a professional dyno tune is the way to go...

Just do a search on here, scal speed shop, cal speed shop california shop so cal, dyno, tuner, etc. Or in the yellow pages under speed shop etc. You have tons of them over there...

Or post a thread asking for a So Cal tuner shop with a dyno. Isn't Lidio down there? Or is he in Fla?

I can strongly recommend my tuner who will send you an X-Cal with some base tunes. Then you can e-mail him your data log for the ultimate tune... but I think it might be better on a dyno if you can find a good tuner/shop...!?!

In addition I'll let you guys know there is a new kick-a$$ C&L on the way, +90 mm, same shape but PVC... oh how sweet it looks (the shape, not bling bling that holds heat!), and sounds!

Brenspeed also offers the C&L with the x-cal2 tune in a package deal. Ordered mine last week.

Default Dyno Tune

Where in So. Cal. do you live? I just took my car to a place called Wide Open Throttle (WOT) at the border of Riverside and Corona. I just wanted to see what it could do. To put it on the dyno and give me a printout of the numbers on a graph, he (Pete at WOT) charged me $75. To actually tune it on the dyno, he said he charges $150/hr. and he'd probably need my car on the dyno for 2 hours (mine is supercharged). He installs CAI's (several different brands), for about $400, installed. He also will sell you an SCT tuner and tune the car with 3 different tunes for $400.

I was recommended to Pete by another '05 Mustang owner, CITYDAVE, who is part of the Yellow Mustang Registry with me. Dave bought a CAI from him and also the SCT tuner with the three tunes. He was very happy with his work. I just met Pete, but he sounds like he knows what he's doing. If you want to call him, his number is 951-734-6560. Hope this helps you.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not to install a CAI or change the tuner, since my Saleen supercharger came with a Saleen tune. Pete said a new tune may or may not help.

BTW, my rwhp on the dyno was 377 and rwt was 392!

My05Toy,

If he has a clue a custom tune will be oh so much better! All parts will play together and fit YOUR car! The average gain is about 10%, so for you about 10-15 RWHP more, plus you'll get a proper data log and the assurance that all is working well (air/fuel) through the register...

Also small things like rev limitor, TQ limitor, shift points for autos, can be further adjusted...

Yeah, he did say it would probably help, just that the Saleen tune that's in it is on the money. He ran an air/fuel check and said it was running great. My hesitations with a new tuner are losing the warranty on the Saleen S/C and/or spending $400 for little/no gain in rwhp, since he did say it was running well. If I do decide to do it, I'll probably get the CAI at the same time. I DO hate the rev limiter! Hey, it's only time and money! I'm wondering if Saleen can retune after a CAI install, since they're local to me, especially if THEY do the install & tune. I'm gonna have to call them and find out. For now, I'm looking at wheels/exhaust options.

Thanks for your words of wisdom. I'm no mechanic, that's why I'm here!

I'm sure they have a good tuner at Saleen... and I think they sell their own upgrade stuff, pulleys, CAI...?? So why would they be against a retune regarding the warranty... and yea, I would check with them first...

The rev limitor is a good thing to have, if you like your motor... But it's no nead for it to kick in at 6,200, heck if you shift at redline you still have a chance to touch it and get a miss fire, your whole run is blown...

i have a question? does a cold air intake sound loud during the winter time? i noticed during the summer on 90 degree days, that it sounds very loud, but then when fall came, in the morning on the way to work and such, it lost that growl that it had to it, and sounded just like air being sucked in almost, during the winter? does it get loud again?

It should sound the same all year long. I had mine out last weekend in 40F weather and when the cmp's open at around 3000rpm it sounds louder than ever now that I have the longtube headers on.

I know KJ and I don't agree on this point but I'm very happy with the Diablosport Predator. I bought the U7140 which comes with 3 tunes which don't require a Cold Air Intake. If you purchase either the "Standard"C&L Intake or the Steeda Cold Air Intake you go to the Diablosport website and download the appropriate tune for free.
I purchased the C&L and downloaded the tune from the site. You get a 91 and a 93 Octane tune. With just these 2 items and a set of BFG Drag radials I ran a 12.954@106.998. with my U/D Pulleys and Longtube headers I improved to 12.691@109.175.

The XCal-II is a great tuner but you have to shell out more $$$ to get a CAI tune

A bit of help please.
I'm thinking about installing the C & L (with sct) as my last mods...I'm not as tuned as some of you guys..just some Borla 11752 (quieter than the normal borlas). and an eiback prokit.

Is tuning something I can do at home? Do you just plug in the tuner? or do you need anything else?
I'm not looking for perfection, just a tiny bit more power. The Bolras seemed to open up the engine..car runs and feels smoother and better, and is just noticibaly louder..but a very slight change.

Does induction make your car louder? I'm not sure I want it much louder as I do a lot of fast highway driving...lots of miles; too loud it would become annoying.

go to www.cnlperformance.com and listen to the video car on their dyno. They do a run with and without the intake and you can hear for yourself the difference. IMO, it's the type of noise I would love to hear out of my car.
