Default Hail damage on my 05 GT

LIFE SUCKS, last night the wife and I went to dinner with friends for my wifes Bday and we took the stang. Looked at the radar before we left and there were no threats of rain and certainly not severe storms. Around 9pm the wind picked up and I did not even get the words out of my mouth that I hope it did not Hail and here it came . there were chunks that were quarter to half dollar size and I was crushed. After it let up I went to my car and ran my hand over the hood, roof and trunk and did not feel anything obvious and was relieved. But when I got home and dried off the hood and roof I counted over 100 dimples on the hood alone and maybe 6 on the roof, not sure about the reset of the car as it was dark and I am afraid to pull it out of the garage today to see more. I guess I will be looking for a body shop on Monday and hopefully finding one of those places that can do a paintless dent removal. Has anyone had that process done on any of there cars before? If I could figure out a way to use the insurance money and the $500 deductable I pay I might get a Shaker hood for it. I would have to find a body shop that could order it for me and paint it for the same cost of repairing the dimples. Anyways, any thoughts or suggestions as to what you would do is appreciated. I live in Austin Texas and my insurance is through State Farm so if anyone in this area has any suggestions about good body shops or shops that might be able to replace my hood for a Shaker, please let me know.

That is terrible...I really feel for you. You do have an opportunity to get a shaker hood, CDC glassback and a ducktail at a discount...depending on the insurance money. I hope it works out for you.

I agree

even if you didn't get a shaker hood system you could get a milder scooped hood and still look pretty stock. But I think the shaker with the 69'-70' style hood looks great.
I wouln't ever considering using bondo on a hood, they flex and vibrate too much and over the years it will crack.
hmm, silver car with the black glass roof may be a bit of an odd color combo though.

good luck, and sorry dude.

Find out how much it would cost to replace what you have first. Then find out the price to replace with the shaker hood. The difference is what you will have to pay plus your $500 deductible. Talk with your insurance agent and you should be able to work something out.

Hey NEWGTOWNER,
I too have State Farm as a provider. Last year one of my cars was damaged due to hail. The day after the claim they sent a claim adjuster to the house. The adjuster told me that State Farm does not use the paintless dent removal. They prefer to R&R (Remove and Replace) everything. The roof...Well I don't know. Basically the adjuster wrote me up a claim for R&R and repainting etc. It was more than P.D.R would have been. The adjuster in so many words cut me a check and said to fix it however I wanted. Meaning.... Pocket the money, do it myself, use PDR ETC.
I live in Indiana, I don't know if this is a policy across the board or just in my area. But If you find a good body shop that will work with you, I bet you can break even with the shaker hood.

About a month after I bought my 02 Maxima, I got caught in a Hail storm--I was crushed. State Farm said they'd cover it, but I had to find a shop that used paintless dent repair. I took it in and the shop said they could get some of it out with PDR, but they would have to replace the hood, and the drivers side quarter panel.

They did an excellent job and from the side, you couldn't see any damage, but sitting in the car and looking in the sideview mirror, I could see minor ripples all the way down the door toward the trunk.

The repair bill was $4,000, State Farm covered everything. I'd caution you to look it over *VERY* closely before you accept it back from the shop. I thought I looked close, but the sideview mirror thing bit me when I got it home.

Best of luck!

J

PS That was the only hail storm I've seen in Ohio in 7 years, it was discussed a ton in the news, and an adjuster never even saw my car. They just cut the check. My insurance didn't go up either. State Farm earned a long time customer when they told me to go get it fixed. I was REALLY worried they'd drop the "natural act" or "act of God" bomb.
